Bom combate entre dois ex-campeões mundiais. Combate equilibrado entre os dois, com MVP a conseguir aproveitar uma queda do árbitro para acertar um Low Blow e o Playmaker… O árbitro acordou e contou mas apenas para uma Near Fall. MVP continuou a atacar furiosamente Jericho e quando foi para o Ballin’ Elbow encontou Jericho levantado… Codebreaker… 1…2…Nope. Jericho foi para o Lionsault mas MVP contrariou com os joelhos e foi novamente para o Playmaker mas Jericho segurou-se a uma corda e MVP caiu redondo, sozinho, no chão. Jericho puxou MVP para o centro do ringue e prendeu o Walls of Jericho obrigando-o a desistir, na marca dos 13 minutos. (78)

Miz tem uma grande boca, toda a gente sabe disso… Mas este combate apenas expôs mais a sua fragilidade. É verdade que com a ajuda de Michael Elgin, Mizanin ainda conseguiu ficar próximo da vitória em alguns instantes. Chegando mesmo a acertar o Mizard of Oz, mas um Bionic Elbow e um Silver Spoon DDT depois, o WWE Champion vencia, com o relógio a aproximar-se da marca dos 18 minutos. (80)

 

 

O campeão da WWE preparava-se para falar depois do combate, mas foi de imediato atacado por Michael Elgin e The Miz que o colocaram no chão e o massacraram até que se viu a entrar no ringue… John Dalton! Dalton come a atacar Miz que é desviado por Michael Elgin no último segundo, sendo Elgin a levar com um Superkick nos queixos. Miz fugiu de imediato rampa acima, deixando o seu guarda-costas para trás, enquanto Dalton ajuda o WWE Champion a levantar-se. (66)

 

 

Passa um video a recordar os confrontos e as alianças entre CM Punk e Triple H desde antes do Summerslam. Tudo irá culminar já no Domingo, no Armageddon. (76)

CM Punk & Triple vs. King Carlito & Sheamus O’Shaunessy

Combate muito bom e renhido com vários momentos onde se viu a falta de confiança entre os parceiros de ambas as equipas. O final veio depois de 20 minutos non-stop. No final, CM Punk acertou a sua sequencia de dropkicks e atirou Sheamus contra o canto para o Bulldog, mas Sheamus afastou Punk com um empurrão. Sheamus procurou Carlito para o tag, mas Carlito saiu do canto no último instante. O irlandês virou-se mesmo a tempo… para o GTS. 1…2…3. CM Punk vencia para a sua equipa. (87)

 

 

Após o combate Triple H entrou no ringue para levantar o braço do parceiro… Mas Punk tirou o braço dali e recusou a “cortesia” Triple H abandonou o ringue com um sorriso de soslaio para o seu próximo adversário, enquanto Punk ficou sério e sentado de joelhos cruzados no centro do ringue, sendo a imagem com que fechamos esta edição do Monday Night Raw. Mike DiBiase vs Joe Hennig vs Kofi Kingston ©

E passamos ao primeiro combate da noite, e já pelo título intercontinental. O combate arrancou com Mike DiBiase e Joe Hennig a apontarem agulhas ao campeão, e o campeão a fugir do ringue, obrigando os dois desafiadores a começarem o combate. Hennig começou por dominar o combate, mantendo DiBiase controlado com vários holds para o cansar. Quando Heenig começou a ganhar algum momentum e a aplicar algumas manobras de maior impacto acabou cock-blocked pelo campeão que entrou no ringue e lhe acertou vários socos seguidos por um dropkick que deixou o Perfect Son de fora do combate por algum tempo.

 

Kofi Kingston foi surpreendido por DiBiase com o Million Dollar Dream! O campeão quase quase que apagou, mas acabou por se libertar da manobra, mas viu-se vítima de um piledriver!

 

1..2… NO!

 

O combate prossegue com DiBiase a controlar, mesmo depois de uma entrada de rompante de Joe Hennig no ringue, e assim continuou até acertar um Diving Elbow Drop em Joe Hennig para mais uma near fall. DiBiase tentou prender um figure-four mas Hennig puxou e conseguiu um roll-up, que Kofi Kingston conseguiu parar com um soco desesperado. Hennig levantou-se e Kofi quase lhe acertou o trouble in paradise, mas Hennig baixou-se mesmo a tempo. Mike DiBiase prendeu o campeão novamente no Million Dollar Dream, mas Hennig aproveitou e acertou um Perfect Plex nos dois!

Hennig foi para o cover a Kingston, mas Kingston tentou também um roll-up, mas Hennig estava preparado e safou-se rapidamente… S.O.S! 1…2…3! Kofi Kingston vence! Kofi Kingston continua campeão intercontinental! (72)

 

 

Passamos aos bastidores onde se encontra Paul Heyman:

Chris Jericho vs Edge

O combate começou com Jericho a tentar “sufocar” Edge desde o primeiro instante, e parecendo procurar acabar rapidamente o combate. Jericho focou-se inicialmente nas pernas de Edge, talvez procurando cansá-lo e impedir o Spear, mas ao mesmo tempo, para preparar o Walls of Jericho.

 

O combate acabou por perder o fulgor inicial e arrastar-se um pouco com Edge a procurar constantemente o exterior do ringue e Jericho a tentar manter o combate entre as cordas. O problema para Jericho é que por muito que tentasse segurar Edge, era impossível controlar completamente as ações deste e assim, impossível mantê-lo limitado àquele espaço. Jericho acabou por perder a cabeça e ir atrás de Edge para fora do ringue, mas isso deu vantagem a Edge que parecia ter toda uma estratégia montada.

 

Assim que Jericho lhe fez finalmente a vontade, Edge usou tudo o que tinha ao seu dispor para desmantelar Y2J… os degraus, as mesas dos comentadores e especialmente a barreira de segurança foram armas, completamente legais, nas mãos de Edge. Mesmo assim, um momento de desatenção quase foi fatal, pois Jericho conseguiu contrariar um shoulder tackle com um dropkick, e aproveitou de imediato para prender Edge no Walls of Jericho. Edge sofreu a bom sofrer, pois não tinha para onde fugir, e por mais que batesse com a mão no chão, não existem desistências fora do ringue. Acabou por ser a contagem a salvar o Rated R Superstar e a obrigar Jericho a quebrar a manobra e a voltar ao ringue. Jericho quebrou a contagem e voltou de imediato para Edge que Jericho fez o favor de empurrar para dentro do ringue. Cover… 1…2… Não.

 

Jericho foi então novamente para o Walls, mas Edge conseguiu acertar um pontapé em Jericho… numa zona que dói particularmente nos homens, mas o árbitro estava mal colocado e não se apercebeu… SPEAR!

 

1…2…3! Edge vence novamente! (65)

 

 

Após o combate, Edge abandonou o ringue, mas decidiu voltar para trás. Edge regressou ao ringue e pediu um microfone…

 

Edge: I told you I would beat you… I told you I would humiliate you time and time again. And I told you I would help you if you wanted me to… Forget these idiots here… let them boo. Let their boos feed your anger, join me and together we will conquer this company…

 

Edge esticou a mão e ficou à espera de resposta… Jericho baixou a cabeça e… levantou a mão.

 

Jericho e Edge abraçaram-se e Jericho com uma mão levantou o braço de Edge e com a outra mandou calar o público que os vaiava. Os dois subiram a rampa juntos sobre um coro de assobios mas pareceram pouco importados com isso. Podemos ter aqui em mãos uma aliança a ter conta no futuro. (80)

 

 

Passamos aos bastidores onde se encontra Paul Heyman com…

 

Paul Heyman: Right now, I’ll have a little face to face conversation with your reigning, defending, WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Cody Rhodes. Cody, tonight the World Heavyweight Championship is at stake inside a match like no other. Fortunately for you, I guess… there are no alliances inside the Elimination Chamber, but are you afraid you’ll be everyone’s target going into your match?

 

Cody: Well, Paul to be honest that’s what being WWE Champion means. To have a bullseye at your back on every match. The Elimination Chamber is special, not just because of the steel and the glass. Not just because it will be six of the top men in our industry competing for this championship. It is a match where you can’t prepare like any other match. When you think about it, you can either start the match or go on last. You don’t know who’s entering when, so you never know how the match will unfold…

 

Paul: And it is also a match where the so-called champion’s advantage isn’t a thing.

 

Cody: That’s right Paul, but actually to me, I never saw that rule as an advantage to me. To be honest, if I ever retain my championship on the accounts of a disqualification loss, what kind of champion will I be?

 

Paul: Well, many greats of our sports retained their World Championships that way. Cody, with time I think you’ll learn that not everything is as black and white as you think. So far, it has all been roses for you, but you have to think that someday you Will lose that championship, and you don’t want to look back and think “Ohh, I could have done this or that”. Because, you see Cody… that can lead you down a dark path.

 

Cody: No need to worry Paul. I understand what you mean, but I won’t let this championship consume me. I know who I am, and I will remain that way regardless of the outcome of today’s match and any other match. I saw what happened to Dean Ambrose just a few weeks ago… I saw pressure getting the best of him, but I’m stronger than that. After all, I’m a Rhodes. (76)

 

 

Vemos agora um video que recorda o combate entre Davey Richards e Nigel McGuinness há quase 3 semanas, a forma como Tito Ortiz provocou a derrota por count-out do inglês após múltiplas interferências, e as palavras de Tito Ortiz a queixar-se do desrespeito e a desafiar Nigel para um combate esta noite. O vídeo fecha com as palavras de Tito na última segunda feira: “And come this Sunday, I’ll make you my b*tch.”. (81)

Nigel McGuinness vs Tito Ortiz

Quem continua a esperar um combate clássico de wrestling de Tito Ortiz anda desatento, e mais uma vez assistimos a um festival de porrada bem mais reminiscente de uma UFC do que de qualquer companhia de Sports Entertainment/Pro wrestling.

Enquanto que contra Claude no Summerslam o foco foi em algo mais técnico, aqui Ortiz foi para a porrada mesmo e cedo os dois lutadores começaram a apresentar pequenas feridas. Nigel acabou por sofrer um corte aparentemente mais profundo devido a um soco. O árbitro interrompeu momentaneamente o combate para que o corte fosse fechado, enquanto Tito Ortiz e Davey Richards gozavam com a cara do inglês (se houver algum amigo brasileiro a ler, não é isso que isto quer dizer).

O que se passou pareceu dar um novo ânimo a McGuinness e quebrou o ritmo de Ortiz de forma clara. McGuinness conseguiu por duas vezes assustar Ortiz ao prender o London Dungeon em defesa de um soco. Isto foi enfurecendo Tito cada vez mais, pois ele próprio percebeu que estava a ser dominado. Ortiz foi ficando mais descuidado ao mesmo tempo que ficava mais agressivo. Era uma combinação complicada que fazia com que o combate ficasse mais imprevisível. No final, Tito acertou uma avalanche de socos em Nigel que mesmo assim teve o discernimento de apanhar um dos braços de Ortiz e atirá-lo ao chão. Rings of Saturn! Ortiz não tem para onde fugir, mas mesmo assim não aceita desistir… e o árbitro pára o combate! O vencedor… por stoppage... Tito Ortiz!

 

Nigel nem parece acreditar. Pelo menos é o que parece transparecer a sua face no meio de tanto sangue. O árbitro decidiu interromper o combate por considerar que o volume de sangue que McGuinness estava a perder era demasiado e que o combate não podia prosseguir. Ortiz teve que ser ajudado por Davey Richards a sair do ringue, mas mesmo assim podia-se ver um sorriso no meio da dor. Afinal de contas, o Huntington Beach Bad Boy acabara de conquistar uma vitória dificílima, mesmo que o público não a apreciasse. (69)

John Dalton: I want to send a message to the WWE Champion. I won’t beat around the bush, mate. Cody, on Monday I was there to help you, because of two things. Because I have a stonking amount of respect for you and your family but I had to stand up to those bloody idiots. And don’t make a mistake, you can count me in to help if a situation like that arrives, but today… today is a whole different story. Today, you can count on me targeting you from the second we are both inside the Elimination Chamber…

 

John Dalton: You see, mate, you like to say you are the present and the future of this company, but you have been here for almost ten years. You are not the future, and I don’t think you will be the present for long. I’m the future… I’m this generation’s Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, John Cena… all in one. I’m the past, the present and the future, because once I’m done History will be synonym with John Dalton. And it all starts today when I leave the Elimination Chamber as WWE Champion. But I will make sure that I’m not the guy who became champion because he got lucky… because he was an opportunist. NO! No… I will make sure that I will be the man that finds that crack in the former Champ’s armor and takes him down. I will be The One. (76)
