Decisão da Comissão de Ética.

A Comissão de Ética Independente da FIFA baniu provisoriamente 11 dirigentes acusados por corrupção - Jeffrey Webb, Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Jack Warner, Eugenio Figueredo, Rafael Esquivel, José Maria Marin, Nicolás Leoz, Chuck Blazer e Daryll Warner - na sequência de uma investigação desencadeada pela Procuradoria-Geral dos Estados Unidos.

Hans-Joachim Eckert, presidente do órgão, explicou que eram necessárias medidas imediatas face à gravidade da situação: «As acusações estão claramente relacionadas com futebol e são de uma natureza tão séria que era imperativo agir imediatamente. Os processos seguirão o seu curso, de acordo com o Código Ético da FIFA.»

"The decision in favour of Qatar is, and remains, a major error on FIFA's behalf with serious consequences. The drastic corrections which have subsequently taken place do nothing to change that. The fundamental problems remain. The report of the Ethics Committee has so far done too little to clarify the situation with regards to the awarding of the tournament through the FIFA Executive Committee. The issue of human rights and the intolerable working conditions at the World Cup construction sites has been brushed completely under the carpet in the current debate about scheduling. That is unacceptable. World football has a permanent obligation to ask here for clear improvements. The rescheduling of the World Cup to December, which has now been confirmed, is a decision which has been taken at the expense of the fans and leagues in Europe. However, in the last few weeks we have also noticed that even amongst the European authorities there has been too little readiness to fight for the necessary changes."

Dois dados interessantes que apareceram hoje: O Corriere dello Sport publicou hoje um artigo a dizer que há provas que a FIFA manipulou intencionalmente os resultados dos jogos do Mundial 2002 e, de acordo com a Federação Belga, a candidatura da Bélgica/Holanda para o Mundial 2018 foi a única limpa e onde não houve troca de favores para ganhar votos, segundo os relatos do Michael Garcia (a pessoa que investigou o processo da atribuição dos Mundiais de 2018 e 2022). Tendo em conta que Portugal e Espanha se candidataram ao Mundial 2018...

 

For anyone wondering how the scenario works overall, there are 209 fifa members (more than there are officially recognised countries). Every vote is equally weighted, so seeing all these big countries support Ali means nothing in the scheme of things. Confederations often vote in blocs and this is why Blatter is hard to topple.

 

UEFA (53 votes) - Ali's biggest supporters, but not unanimous. Russia and others will support Blatter, but Platini suggests ~45 of 53 support Ali.

 

CONCACAF (35 votes) - Has some support from Ali from the bigger countries (USA, Canada), but the Caribbean has typically been a Blatter stronghold. There have been some rumblings of anti-Blatter there for the wrong reasons, but I doubt they flip.

 

CONMEBOL (10 votes) - Led by Uruguay, there might be at least some support for Ali here, but 10 votes that might be split aren't going to be important.

 

OFC (11 votes) - OFC supported Blatter until recently, but New Zealand have now voiced support for Ali. Maybe the rest of OFC could flip, but more likely vote for Blatter.

 

CAF (54 votes) - Very likely that Africa votes unanimously for Blatter, getting him more than half of the votes he needs to win independently of how the rest of the world votes.

 

AFC (46 votes) - Typically pro-Blatter, with Australia (who are basically their own entity) the only ones openly pro-Ali. Ali probably wins a few votes due to political connections in the AFC too. However, with no contrary information, it is likely the AFC votes heavily Blatter as well.

 

A large AFC flip along with support from either the OFC or some of CONCACAF is the only avenue to victory I can see for Ali.
