"Portugal’s run by bald losers — we’re rescuing him."

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump announced today that the United States will be “taking Cristiano Ronaldo” to play for Team USA, calling it a "historic win for American greatness — and for common sense."

"Cristiano wants to win. The U.S. wants to win. Portugal? Not so much," said Trump. "They’re being coached by some spanish bald guy named Roberto. Can you imagine? US being managed by a foreigner? It's sad. Frankly, it's abusive to Cristiano."

Trump claimed Ronaldo had been “held hostage by European mediocrity for too long,” and that the U.S. would offer him instant citizenship, Mar-a-Lago suite access, and a tax-free endorsement deal.

Vice President JD Vance echoed support:

"Let’s be honest: if Portugal were a startup, it would've been bought out by Texas years ago. The EU is basically a wine club with bad defense spending. We’re rescuing Ronaldo from irrelevance."

When asked about FIFA regulations, President Trump scoffed:

"FIFA? Please. We’ll do it, and if they say no, we’ll build a second World Cup. A better one. On a golf course. With real eagles."

Portugal’s government has yet to respond, though European Union leaders issued a statement calling the plan “ridiculous and illegal,” to which President Trump replied:

"Illegal? So is half of Europe. And I’ve seen Portugal’s defense — let’s just say, if the EU tried to stop us, a 40 y/o Ronaldo would still outrun them by halftime."

Ronaldo later responded on Instagram with “?????”
