Gales ainda ia fazendo uma surpresa contra a Escócia. Não concordo que deva sair.
Um torneio a 7 equipas é chato por dar número impar, mas neste formato de calendário mais seguido dava par pôr um isento por jornada. Depois disso era meter o wooden spoon jogar um playoff.

If you don't mind I'll publish my take on this press release in English and then add a Portuguese translation. I can't write in Portuguese and I rely on Google Translate. For such a complex issue and long post I simply don't rely it will be accurate enough and I wouldn't like to be misunderstood.

First of all, my recommendation would be that if you are really interested in what Spanish rugby thinks, you shouldn't rely on social media. X, Facebook or Instagram reward the loudest voices, often the most crazy and nationalist ones, but not necessarily the most representative ones. There is a Spanish rugby forum where you will find the very same disappointment but with more elaborated and measured takes, just like this subreddit.

Probably as a consequence of such social media debates I feel this press release was misunderstood. Portuguese people think it's about arrogance and believing we lost to lesser opposition. Argentinians think it's about targeting Pablo Bouza, just like when a football club claims they trust their manager two minutes before sacking it. But my opinion is that this article, which is a big communication mistake by a new RFER comms manager who started in January and comes from football, needs to be read from an internal POV, not from the outside.

If you read me for months, either here or in rugbyunion subreddit, I always said RFER doesn't lack challenges even if things look rosier than in FPR. This defeat just opened the Pandora box and exposed the tensions that have always existed within RFER and Spanish rugby. We may not have a figure like Uva brothers posing a threat to our union president, but there are different families among the governing group as well as people who don't share their vision of things.

Those who disagree are now questioning if all the investment and choices made in the last year were worth it. RFER took away the best 27 players from División de Honor, devaluing domestic competition, to improve the national team. Clubs are obviously disappointed. Those who disagree with Iberians project are now saying that we have burnt thousands of euros only to get worse results. There is also people who don't embrace RFER policy of raising money by hosting events like REC finals and feel it badly backfired now because sporting branch of RFER wasn't at the level of financial and commercial branches. Is it shortsighted and opportunistic? 100%. But there are such voices even within RFER.

There are others who don't enjoy having an Argentinian troika (Hourcade/Aspirina/Bouza) at the head of RFER sporting matters. I have read quite a few guys claiming that Santi Santos performed better with less resources. It's funny how time allows to taint in rose memories, because I remember well Spain making a shitshow of themselves in Portugal back in 2021 with Santos at the head.

Yunque is RFER Director of Rugby and therefore when these debates arise, it's his job who is directly attacked. He and probably those at RFER who defend his ideas, probably felt the need to go out there and talk. But the way they did was an absolute own goal. The very same words, in a "normal" article, with a photo of him and a normal headline rather than such a press release that looks like his cat died made a bigger deal than it is. Really, it's not that deep. It's just Spanish rugby internal politics. Portugal is just a third party and the same things would have happened had we lost to any other REC side in the same circumstances (badly beaten while with almost all our players available).
