Talk is Jericho Summary 1/16/2015: The Usos

They talk about the family relations: They're the sons of Rikishi, nephews to Umaga, their grandmother sometimes babysitted the Rock, and while not everyone is blood related, they're familiar with most Samoans. Jericho talks about how all the Samoans he met are giants, yet working with them is like fighting a cuddly teddybear - no pain. He also mentions that they are all badasses, and once in Mexico a Samoan he knew actually held the promoter off a roof by his foot with one hand, telling him that he better pay him his money.

They talk about Rikishi, and how second generation wrestlers all can relate to absentee fathers and understand the sacrifices people make to be wrestlers. The Usos do mention watching him all the time, and loving what he did. The brothers laugh about how they were being bred to love the product without knowing it.

Jericho mentions how he named the Stinkface, after a movie where a guy put his hand down his ass and shoved it in his father in law's face, which was called the Stinkpalm. He also pushed for Rikishi's last name to be Phatu rather than Fatu, which led to PHAT.

Jimmy and Jay's names are Joshua and Jonathan, and they both have two kids. Uso means brother, and backstage, Umaga would call people "oo-ss", casually calling them brother, and others started doing it. Jericho laughs about how during Umaga's day, Triple H tried to fit in by calling people brother, but he spoke it "uts~", so the boys would giggle about it backstage.

Umaga, or Eki, as the Usos call him, was the one who got them in the business. They were overweight, working 9-5 as furniture deliverers/installers, busting their asses and go to the bar and drink every day. Eki one day was with them at the bar, and at 2 in the morning, cut a promo about how they were worthless motherf-ers and would never amount to anything unless they went with him right there and then. He forced them to call their boss and quit, took them to their apartment and explained to their wives that they were going to go train. Eki gave the girls $500 each, and took Usos on a 10 hour drive from Pensecola to Houston, where they trained under Booker T and Eki for a year or so.

They did do twin magic pranks when they were younger, switching classes and stuff. Jimmy actually broke up with Jay's girl as a joke when they were in high school, though he did confess later that it was a prank. Jay is now married to her, and they still laugh about it.

They worked on the indies a bit while they trained. The first time they worked was against each other. When the first brother came out, the crowd cheered. Then his twin came out, and the crowd was pretty confused.

They auditioned twice for Smackdown but failed. After a year of training, Eki asked them if they were really ready, and when they said yes, they auditioned for Raw and got signed. However, only one of them went to FCW. The other brother had to work a normal job for 6 months until his knee surgery had healed and was paid off. Once they were together, it only took 4 months to get called up.

Roman was with the sidelined brother during his recovery period, and told him that he wouldn't be far behind. The day the Uso was healed and debuted on FCW was the day Roman was signed.

The Usos came up with Tamina Snuka, who, while not related by blood, was familiar with them. They debuted doing a synchronized three way splash on the Hart Dynasty. Jericho remembers that day: Vince pulled him aside and they watched them practice that spot, and how they got it right the first time. "He was very impressed with his new toys," Jericho jokes. Vince loved their synchronized timing, which the Usos mention is a natural twin thing. Jericho agrees: he'll go to his twin daughters room, and they'll be asleep in the exact same position, which always amazes him.

The Usos did mark out a bit, working with Mark Henry and Goldust, people they grew up watching.

There was a 2 year break where they weren't on, but they did go on Superstars a lot and killed it. They loved working there, since it gave them a lot of time to practice and get experience working matches.

Their first match back was against the Shield at Money in the Bank in Philly, "a heel crowd." Huge pop for the Shield and shitstorm to the Usos. But they amazed the crowd, and Mark Henry pulled them aside and congratulated them. "I've been working here a long time, and I've never seen a guy go in and get booed, and then at the end get a standing ovation."

The Rikishi driver and Yokozuna's leg drop were both practiced on the kids, even when they were like eight. When they got home they'd wake everyone up and party and drink.

Their war dance was pitched to Billy Kidman, who didn't think it was cool. Months later, Vince asked them to do it, after they fixed it up they put it on TV. However, all their friends and family called them up to do a Samoan one, since the one they did was the more famous Haka from New Zealand. They got tons of heat from the Samoan community for flubbing on that. Now they do the proper Samoan one.

At the Battleground PPV, Pat Patterson actually stood up to shake their hands. Working with Rowan and Harper and Wyatt was great according to the Usos, since they just stepped up and killed it. Even their dad called to congratulate them, saying that no one could follow that.

It's amazing to the brothers to be called high flyers, considering that they're around 250 lbs.

It was great for the brothers to be champs - special not only for them but for the family. Lots of love from everyone, carrying on the family legacy, and going to Pensecola everyone they knew, nurses, coaches, friends, everyone was their to congratulate them. Jericho jokes about that, people who they knew in middle school calling them up and trying to be friendly.

Their favorite match was the Battleground one with the Wyatts, mostly because when they went back, Vince told them to go to the locker room and tell everyone "Follow that.", with his permission, no heat. Jericho laughs at it, since he was there when they went around yelling "FOLLOW THAT."

Eki is a big thing in their story of success. Besides busting their asses and getting them in the business, they talk about he was always their for them. He signed their report cards when they were young and failing classes, he was there for their first beer, he was there to show them how to get rid of hickeys with a spoon. Their face paint was first done in a dark match as tribute to Eki. Vince loved it, but told them to only use light colors. Their running butt slam isn't inspired by Rikishi. "People say shades of Rikishi, but it's not, it's Umaga, please say Umaga."

The day Eki died, they were shocked. They were told by an agent was that he was in the ICU, but they had just talked to him a few hours ago. They flew to Houston, but by the time they got to him he was already a vegetable from the OD, and was gone. Oscar (Rey Mysterio) broke the news to the roster that was in Afghanistan. Vince was crushed: the policy let people back in if they would just do the rehab, but Eki didn't want to do it, since he didn't think he was up for it.
