Matthew Langston's header stunned Leeds and earned non-league Histon a home tie with Swansea in the FA Cup third round.

In a game played in awful conditions, postman Langston netted from Gareth Gwillim's corner just before half-time.

Until that point Histon had rarely threatened, with Patrick Ada's near-own goal and Luciano Becchio's shot over being Leeds' best first-half chances.

Lubomir Michalik hit the post and had a shot cleared off the line as Leeds sought an equaliser but to no avail.

The United winger received his second booking when he inexplicably handballed Wayne Rooney's corner after 68 minutes.

"He tried to stop the ball from hitting his face," Ferguson said.

But City boss Mark Hughes agreed with referee Howard Webb's decision, saying: "I don't think the referee had any choice. I thought he was going to catch it at one point.

A nova casa do Tottenham

 

O Tottenham revelou as primeiras imagens do seu novo Estádio que será construído ao lado do actual White Hart Lane, que continuará a ser utilizado até que o novo parque desportivo esteja de pé. O futuro estádio dos "spurs" terá uma lotação entre 55 mil e 60 mil espectadores. "A minha grande prioridade é recriar a magnífica atmosfera que temos no actual estádio, mas oferecer aos adeptos as melhores condições de comodidade", explicou Daniel Levy, presidente do clube londrino. "Queremos um estádio que tenha os adeptos o mais próximo possível do rectângulo".

According to the Sun, Wigan 30 year old forward Emile Heskey could move back to his former club Liverpool, who are looking for a backup for Fernando Torres, frequently injured; Heskey's contract is about to expire and could be signed for about 4 million pounds.

O Benitez fez bem em descansar o Keane o gajo fez o jogo todo contra o Bolton com apenas 2 dias é normal que tenha usado rotatividade na equipa. A utilização do Lucas é criticada porque o Liverpool tem um meio campo com Gerrard, Xabi e Mascha e os adeptos querem sempre ver jogar os mais fortes. A verdade é que hoje o Lucas fez uma grande exibição de que ninguém se pode queixar, só lhe faltou o golo.

Andrei Arshavin's agent says Arsenal are just one of a number of clubs from England, Spain and Italy to remain keen on the Russia playmaker.Arshavin, currently on the books of Zenit St Petersburg, has been told that he is free to move on during the January transfer window should a suitable approach for his services be lodged.

 

His availability has alerted a number of Europe's top clubs, with the 27-year-old widely regarded as one of the continent's most prodigious talents.

 

Tottenham, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with the midfielder in the past and they are unlikely to be put off by a reported £12million price tag.

 

Arsenal are now believed to be frontrunners for Arshavin's signature after Arsene Wenger keen to find cover for the injured Cesc Fabregas and the midfielder's agent has confirmed the Emirates remains a viable destination.

 

"We know that Arsene Wenger likes the look of Arshavin," Dennis Lachter said in the Daily Mirror.

 

"But I like the look of Angelina Jolie and it doesn't always mean you get what you want.

 

"Arsenal were interested in signing him last summer and they still are, so we will wait and see what happens.

Premier League - Gerrard charged with assault and affray

 

The Reds captain was charged on Tuesday morning along with two other men who had also been arrested after a "disturbance" outside a late-night bar in Southport, Merseyside in the early hours of Monday morning.

 

The venue's DJ, a 34-year-old local man, required hospital treatment after suffering facial injuries.

 

Gerrard, 28, was released from Southport police station early on Tuesday morning.

 

He was at the restaurant and bar - which turns into a nightclub - with friends to celebrate Liverpool's 5-1 win over Newcastle.

 

"Merseyside Police has charged Steven Gerrard, 28 years, of Formby, Sefton, John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19 years, both from Huyton, Liverpool, with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray following an incident at Bold Street in Southport in the early hours of Monday, December 29," a Merseyside Police spokesman said.

 

"The three men will be appearing at North Sefton Magistrates' Court on January 23."

 

The spokesman said Gerrard and the two other men had been bailed and three other men who were arrested in connection with the incident were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

 

After the game on Sunday Gerrard, who scored twice, hailed his table-topping side as the best he has played in.

 

But several hours later he was apparently caught up in an altercation outside the Lounge Inn in Bold Street.

 

Police were called and arrested six men on suspicion of assault in nearby Lord Street.

 

The town centre business remained shut yesterday but evidence of a fight inside could be seen through the windows.

 

Spots of blood were clearly visible on the floor, along with shards of broken glass.

 

Gerrard has been capped by England 70 times and has captained his country on four occasions.

 

He was made an MBE last year and received an honorary fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University.

 

Liverpool's next match is against Preston in the FA Cup on Saturday.
