Doublelift · 80.565 gostam distohá 6 horas · I think now would be a good time to talk about playoffs, and how I feel about the disappointment of defeat. I had been daydreaming for months about playing at Worlds -making a clutch play in front of everyone as they screamed and chanted my name. I put in more work than I've ever put in before just for our playoffs match against TSM. Allstars training looked like a boy scout meeting compared to this. Never in a thousand years could I have imagined Season 3 World Championships without me. I'm Doublelift, the trademark trashtalking AD carry who has no map awareness but always plays well. Sure I have bad times when I choke and play like shit here and there, but I don't think anyone can honestly say another AD player has outperformed me throughout Season 3. Who could deserve to go and represent NA more than me? But now I realize none of that is important. When we lost, and my dreams of sick hype plays and sweeping everyone aside were crushed, I thought for a long time about what this really means for me. I've been a pro player for more than 2 years now, and this is the first big event I couldn't go to despite wanting it so much. I've also never won a single LAN throughout my career, so I feel like a fraud in the sense that I can never claim to be any good just from my terrible record alone. People will call me cocky, delusional, and full of myself, but I think I played well against TSM. I could only identify a handful of mechanical mistakes throughout the series, and I felt like my Ashe performance was pretty good for the amount of time I had been practicing her. We played ok as a team despite having some choke moments under the pressure, but TSM played much better. It's hard for people to admit when a team played better than you, but TSM has better playcalling, lane rotations, and map control than us right now. I'm glad the better team won and will represent NA at Worlds. This way, we won't look retarded like last season. The bottom line is that you can almost never look good when you're losing. People will always be critical of the losers, and point to the winners and say "Look! They do it this way and they WON, that means it's smart and good, and your way is stupid and bad." The time has finally come when one star player can't win a team-based game just because he's better. Just look at Froggen, who is probably still the best mid (or tied) in EU despite people desperately trying to prove otherwise because other teams win and Froggen's team loses. CJ Frost might not make worlds, and people might point to Madlife's losses and talk about how he's slipping up and other supports have surpassed him. People just love to hype up the winners and downplay the losers, and that's expected. But my greatest fear is not that people will echo the opinions that I suck, that I'm washed up, or that my ego clouds my play. At any point, the hivemind's opinion changes with a single good play or bad game. My greatest fear is the day I stop being relevant as a pro - and not competing in Worlds is the first step in that direction. I think CLG hasn't stuck with the same roster for more than half a year for the last 2 years, but this time we actually all get along and are willing to put the work in. Monte is a great coach, Kelby is a great manager, and we've actually started to fix problems that seemed unfixable for my entire duration on CLG. For a 3-month old team, I think we did ok this split. Maybe Season 4 we can stop being such a disappointment to ourselves, and more importantly to our fans.
Aires Publicado 1 Setembro 2013 Voyboy · 95.735 gostam disto há 44 minutos · “Keep your head up. You'll get em next time. Tough games.” These are the words of encouragement I received as I took photos and signed autographs for my fans after our games. From the outside looking in, people saw us blow Dignitas out of the water in game one of our series, which was no doubt the happiest moment for myself and Curse fans all season, and then slowly but surely drop 4 consecutive games in a row to both Dignitas and CLG, throwing us into relegation and with no certain guarantee that we will even be in Season 4. That's a tough pill to swallow, but it's even harder to digest as I come to terms with the reality of the situation. That is not to say that I wasn't at least partially ready for this. During the season, we barely scraped by for the first 7 weeks, and our shining rally of hope came in the final push, culminating in our 4-1 finish in Super week to lock us into fourth place. We had been playing better than we could have ever dreamed, given our lackluster season. Communication was on point, plays were being made, and everyone was holding their own. It truly felt, for the first time, as if we had finally hit our stride and were coming together as a team. I couldn't have been happier. Playoffs were imminent and we were in a prime position to fight for a spot at the Season 3 World Championships. All the hard work and heart we put into improving were finally going to pay off. We came back home that night after Super week, on that same flight we've taken countless times before from Los Angeles to Las Vegas literally floating on cloud nine. I crawled into bed with dreams of a Championship trophy held high, the roaring adoration of the whole world (including Twitch Chat) cheering us on, and for once, to have simply just won. And just like that, the dream vanished. When we started practicing the next day, we simply could not win a game. We wrote it off to bad luck, but when this continued for several more days and we had barely managed to win 2 or 3 games over 20 scrims, it was clear that something had gone horribly wrong. I was worried, my team was worried, and yet nothing we did changed the results we were having. We tried anything and everything. We tried going back to old team comps, we tried coming up with new ones. Hell, if you told me wearing a Banana suit and drinking prune juice would have given us greater success, I probably would have tried it at that point. The days quickly dwindled by and with one night to go and no visible improvements made in our results, it was painfully apparent we were going to be in for a rough time. The only successful strategies we had all week was our Kassadin team comp (and even that was shaky) and our other one where I play a strong split pusher (that the team decided on) to try and carry lategame. The results of our 10 days of practice going into playoffs came down to us basically deciding that we were just going to give it our all, play whatever we thought was best, and to try to pull it together for the big matches, the games that would decide our fate. Unfortunately, none of that happened. There was no underdog story, no comeback-kidesque run with us carrying Jacky around the stage as we all yelled “EYYYYYYY!!!” in celebration. I want to say we deserve to be at worlds, but that wouldn't be true. I want to say I didn't see it coming, but that wouldn't be true. I want to say we all played to the best of our ability, but that also wouldn't be true. There is a lot that is on my mind as of right now but ultimately, the only thing that I know for certain is that I am here to stay. I want to keep playing in the LCS and trying to compete on the world stage. I want to restore my team to its former glory. I want to rightfully take back my title as one of the most feared Solo Laners in North America. More than anything, I just want to win. I know the journey of the next thousand miles will be difficult, filled with pitfalls and Teemo shrooms along the path, but I am ready to take that first step forward. Thank you for the continued and limitless support over the past three years through everything. In return, I promise to make you guys proud once again. Because you know what? You're right. I will get them next time. Compartilhar este post Link para o post
