Football: David de Gea implicated in Spanish rape case on eve of Euro 2016 kickoff

 

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been implicated in a Spanish rape case by a protected witness in a Spanish court case, along with his former Spain Under-21 teammate Iker Muniain.

El Diario report that the witness was giving evidence in the investigation against Ignacio Fernandez Allende (aka Torbe), jailed since last April on charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, sexual assault, child pornography, related to prostitution, extortion and money laundering.

 

They're calling it "The Torbe Case". A protected witness testified that she was taken to a hotel where she was abused by 2 footballers.

The unnamed witness claims that she was taken to a hotel and assaulted by two footballers - Muniain and an unnamed player - after Torbe had forced her into the encounter against her will, while telling her that she would be well paid for her time.

 

De Gea was apparently the one who called Torbe for her services. They kept in touch afterwards because they were trying to keep her quiet.

It is claimed that United keeper De Gea was the person who called Torbe to arrange the meeting, with the woman reporting that they kept in touch afterwards in an effort to keep her quiet. De Gea is also said to have tried to arrange another encounter with five United players, but there is no proof that this meeting ever took place.

 

On the eve of Euro 2016, the revelations could see his participation in the competition placed in serious doubt - with much more serious consequences likely if he is found to have played any part in either reported rape.

Se o De Gea abandonar o estágio da Espanha, os regulamentos não permitem substituição por outro jogador.

A menos que se abra uma excepção, a Espanha vai ter mesmo de fazer o EURO com 22 jogadores.

Update from El Confidencial - The police has investigated and found no proof to corroborate the accusations made by the protected witness. The authorities in Spain aren’t considering to call De Gea, Isco or Muniain to testify or answer for any crimes unless proof is found. Considering that the accusations by the witness were investigated and no proof was found, players likely not to be implicated any further.
