The CosmicSnake Publicado 3 Setembro 2008 Marshall, 76ers agree to one-year deal "Donyell Marshall and the Philadelphia 76ers agreed to a one-year contract on Tuesday, the latest free-agent to join a team poised to make a run in the Eastern Conference. The 6-foot-9 Marshall averaged 11.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in 11 seasons and tied the NBA record for 3-pointers in a game with 12 against the Sixers in 2005. "Donyell Marshall has proven time and time again his value as a player in this league," 76ers president Ed Stefanski said. "We believe his ability to stretch defenses with his perimeter shooting will prove to be a great asset for our team and we look forward to having him back home in Philadelphia." Marshall was the fourth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by Minnesota. He started last season with Cleveland before being sent to Seattle in a three-team trade in February. Seattle, now Oklahoma City, waived Marshall in August. The Sixers have been busy this summer after reaching the playoffs for the first time in three years. They signed two-time All-Star forward Elton Brand, added free-agent guards Royal Ivey and Kareem Rush, free-agent center Theo Ratliff, and re-signed two of their most important players to long-term contracts, guard Louis Williams and forward Andre Iguodala. Stark Publicado 22 Maio 2009 Vamos lá pôr isto para cima :) 76ers coaching search update The following is a statement from Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski, regarding the status of the team’s coaching search: "In the past week, I have completed interviews with six candidates, all of whom are exceptionally qualified, have an impressive knowledge of the game and are very well-respected within the basketball community. "I truly appreciate that they took time out of their schedules to meet with me regarding this position. Along with my staff, we will continue our due diligence – including further interviews, extensive research and in-depth background checks – before a final selection is made. "As I have said before, the qualities I am looking for in our next head coach include excellent communication and leadership skills, will stress the importance of accountability while also developing our players and will be a strong tactician. "As such, due to the number of candidates still involved in the process, there is no timetable set for when this very important decision regarding the future direction of the franchise will be made." _____________________________________________________ Sixers confirm interview with Thibodeau The Philadelphia 76ers confirmed reports that the team met with Boston Celtics Associate Head Coach Tom Thibodeau today in regards to their vacant head coaching position. Thibodeau, who just completed his second season with the Celtics, is known around the league as one of the best defensive coaches in the NBA, having had teams he has coached rank in the top 10 in team defense 15 times in 19 seasons. Prior to joining the Celtics, Thibodeau helped the Houston Rockets rank among the top five in the NBA in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense in his four seasons there. "He's terrific, with unbelievable knowledge," Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers told Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News. "He knows the game, is a great teacher. And he knows more than defense. In some ways, he's so good defensively, people overlook his overall knowledge. Thibs is our defensive assistant, but has offensive input. Armond Hill is our offensive assistant, and he has input in the defense. But as good as all of Thibs' schemes might be, when you lose Kevin Garnett [for most of the season], somehow it doesn't look the same. Thibs' isn't Buddy Ryan. He knows so much more about basketball." Thibodeau also served as an assistant coach under John Lucas with the Sixers for two seasons. Per team policy, the team had no further comment on the interview with Thibodeau. @ Sixers.com Compartilhar este post Link para o post

jean-luc godard Publicado 10 Junho 2009 Raps Acquire Evans For Kapono The Toronto Raptors have shed some payroll while adding interior toughness. Tuesday, General Manager Bryan Colangelo sent forward Jason Kapono to Philadelphia in exchange for Reggie Evans. "Reggie Evans will certainly add an element of toughness to our team," said Colangelo in a press release. "He has very good rebounding and defensive instincts, addressing two areas where we have underperformed." Evans played a career-low 14.2 minutes a game last season for the Sixers, averaging 3.3 point and 4.6 rebounds. For six straight seasons, however, Evans has ranked in the top-10 in the league in terms of rebounding per 48 minutes. Toronto finished 22nd in the NBA last season in rebounding rate. The 29-year-old made $4.6 million in 2008-09, and is due $4.9 million in 2009-10 and $5.1 million in 2010-11. Kapono played 22.9 minutes for the Raptors in 2008-09, scoring 8.2 points a game and grabbing 2.0 rebounds. He shot 43% from the field and the same percentage from 3-point range. The 76ers finished the year ranking last in the NBA in 3-point percentage. The UCLA product made $5.8 million in 2008-09, and is due $6.2 million in 2009-10. He has a player option for 2010-11 at $6.6 million. In effect, this trade saves Toronto just under $3 million. The move should also have a major impact on the upcoming NBA Draft. The Raptors had been looking at Pittsburgh power forward DaJuan Blair, but with Evans' defensive presence, the team is sure to go with a shooting guard with the ninth overall pick. There is an outside chance they could draft a point guard, but expect the Raptors to look closely at USC's Demar DeRozan, Arizona State's James Harden (if he lasts until the ninth pick) or Memphis' Tyreke Evans. Overall, this looks on paper like a move that helps both sides shore up some weak spots, and removes some duplication of talent. Thumbs up to both sides. Readers, what do you think? Stark Publicado 17 Junho 2009 Jason Smith medical update Philadelphia 76ers center Jason Smith was examined by Dr. David Altchek, the attending Orthopeadic Surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, who reported that he is pleased with the progress Smith has made to date. Smith has been cleared to do basketball court work without any limitations. “This is very encouraging news and a testament to the hard work Jason has put over the past nine months,” Sixers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski told SIXERS.COM. “But what also shouldn’t go unnoticed is the outstanding work done by our trainer Kevin Johnson, [sixers Strength and Conditioning Consultant] Jesse Wright, [team Medical Director] Dr. Jack [McPhilemy] and Jim McNutly to put Jason in this position as we get ready for the 2009-10 season.” Additionally, during his on-court work Smith will wear a left knee brace for the next two to three months and his progress will be monitored by the Sixers medical staff. Smith will start with individual skill work and shooting drills, then will proceed to one-on-one games, three-on-three games and then to full five-on-five games. The Sixers have set no timetable as to when that progression will occur, but it will be based on how Smith looks during each stage and how he reports to be feeling. Smith missed the entire 2008-09 after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during normal basketball activity on August 6, 2008. Dr. Altchek performed successful surgery on Smith’s left knee to repair the ACL on September 17, 2008. A product of Colorado State University, Smith appeared in 76 games during his rookie season and averaged 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 14.5 minutes per game. In the playoffs, Smith appeared in all six games and posted averages of 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game. In the recently completed Las Vegas Summer League, Smith appeared in five games and averaged 18.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 30.6 minutes per game. 8-) Sixers guard Royal Ivey declines player option Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that Royal Ivey has declined the player option on his contract for the 2009-10 season, making him an unrestricted free agent. Ivey (6-4, 215) signed as a free agent with Philadelphia on July 28, 2008. He appeared in 71 games off the bench for the Sixers last season, averaging 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game. For the season, Ivey had 36 steals to just 23 turnovers, posting the sixth-highest steal-to-turnover ratio (1.57) of any player in the league. Compartilhar este post Link para o post
