Christmas gets invite from 76ers

 

The Sixers extended an invitation to former Temple standout Dionte Christmas, who wasn’t picked in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, to join the team’s combined summer league team with the Nets at the Orlando Pro Summer League.

 

Christmas apparently decided to accept the offer and will report to Central Florida on July 2 for a brief mini-camp preceding the July 6-10 games. He averaged 19.5 points and 5.8 rebounds last season for the Owls.

 

Rookie first-round pick Jrue Holiday and second-year forward/center Marreese Speights will lead the Sixers’ contingent to Orlando. NBDL guard Blake Ahearn is also on the Sixers’ roster.

Pra entrarem tem que dar o nome pro Draft. Se não forem um dos 60 escolhidos ficam na condição de FA, podendo assinar com qualquer equipa em qualquer altura que tal seja permitido.

Sobre a Summer League:

 

At least two undrafted rookies, LSU center Chris Johnson and Temple swingman Dionte Christmas, will join a group of free agents on the combined Sixer-Nets summer league roster next month. Among the others: small forward Rob Kurz who played for Golden State last season, point guard Blake Ahearn who played brief for San Antonio, shooting guard Gary Forbes of the NBDL’s Tulsa 66ers, and power forward Marcus Slaughter of France’s STB LeHavre. In addition, the roster will feature Sixers’ first-round pick Jrue Holiday and second-year big man Marreese Speights as well as the Nets’ first round pick Terrence Williams, Brook Lopez and Chris Douglas-Roberts. No word on whether Courtney Lee will play in Orlando, where he obviously has a home.

 

The Nets and Sixers each get a number of invites beyond their own roster players. Christmas and Kurz, both Philly products, are reportedly Sixer invitees while Johnson, an athletic 6′11″ shot blocker from LSU is may be a Net invitee. The 6’9” Slaughter, who played for the Nets summer league team last year, may also be as well. That makes for a total of 11 players. In the past, summer league teams had full rosters of 15 players.

 

Camp begins in Orlando on Wednesday. Games begin Monday. In addition to the combined Sixer-Nets team, the Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics will have full teams. The Sixer-Nets open against the Pacers entry at 3 p.m. July 6. Here’s the link to the schedule. No word on whether they will be webcast.
