World Wrestling Entertainment announced that on tonight's episode of ECW, Vince McMahon will appear to "address the future of ECW."

 

As we broke in the PWInsider.com Elite section back on 11/30/09, WWE and SyFy have been discussions for some time about changing the format and identity of the ECW series. SyFy has been unhappy with the ratings slide of the 2.8 when the series debuted in 2006 to it's current rating in the area of 1.0. There are also some with the network who were upset they were sold on a self-sustaining spin-off product and instead ended up with a lower level WWE series.

 

There is an expectation the ECW name, which WWE brought back from the dead in June 2005, will be put to rest and the new incarnation of the Tuesday night series will focus on newer names.

Hulk Hogan called into Rob Van Dam's RVD Radio on blogtalkradio.com last night. Hogan claimed he called in to speak with Rob about coming into the company, but ended up on the air. He claimed he had just been speaking to Jeff Hardy about ideas and pushed Van Dam to come in, saying things would be a lot of easier for the company for TNA should RVD sign with them. Van Dam responded they needed to have a conversation off the air. I bet he'll be getting a phone call from John Laurinaitis the second someone in WWE reads this. Hogan pushed that a move to Monday nights was happening "sooner than later" and he and RVD agreed that the move to a traditional ring will only help TNA in the long run. It was a pretty interesting conversation. Van Dam pretty much seemed open to talking about the idea since his wife is doing well and he's been away long enough that he isn't burnt out. Based on interviewing Rob two weeks ago for the PWInsider.com Elite section, I get the idea that whoever makes the price right and a schedule that isn't overbearing to his quality of life will be the company he ends up with, but he's also content to sit out and work on other projects, including his acting and a comic book project he's been working on developing for almost a decade.
