Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship Match)

Daniel Bryan won the WWE Title at SummerSlam and again at Night of Champions, but can “The Beard” prove his powerful detractors wrong and make it three in a row when he takes on the chosen “face of WWE,” Randy Orton, at WWE Battleground for the vacant WWE Championship?

The high-stakes bout, set for Oct. 6 on pay-per-view, was announced by WWE COO Triple H during a WWE.com exclusive interview with Michael Cole.

Neither Superstar will head into the contest with the champion’s advantage, thanks to The Game's order on the Sept. 16 Raw to vacate the WWE Title. Triple H stripped Bryan of the championship in response to a fast count administered by now-dismissed referee Scott Armstrong during the Bryan-Orton title match at Night of Champions. While the WWE COO did not rule out collusion — an accusation seemingly substantiated by Armstrong’s admission of guilt — Bryan steadfastly denies any wrongdoing.

Regardless of that controversy, all eyes are now set on the first-ever WWE Battleground event on Sunday, Oct. 6, and its high-profile WWE Championship Match. What began as a rivalry based merely in mutual disdain has escalated over the past month into an all-out war that may determine the direction of WWE, both as sports-entertainment and as a business, for years to come.

Bryan has the unambiguous support of the WWE Universe and much of the locker room, though he lacks the endorsement of Triple H, who has twice orchestrated the dethroning of “The Beard” as WWE Champion. The WWE’s “Yes!” Man, however, is nothing if not relentless, and, Bryan appears determined to make the championship gold his again, once and for all.

The ever-dangerous Viper, intent on reestablishing himself as WWE’s Apex Predator, has ratcheted up the cruelty since his loss at Night of Champions. On the Raw the night after, Orton methodically decimated The Miz in The Awesome One’s hometown of Cleveland, causing what doctors have described as an upper thoracic injury.

Will Orton’s rediscovered mean streak overwhelm the spirit of the WWE Universe’s favorite underdog, Bryan?

To see how this world-caliber encounter shakes out, be sure to watch the inaugural WWE Battleground, live on pay-per-view Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 ET/5 PT.

World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (Extreme Rules Match)

At WWE Battleground, Rob Van Dam will receive another opportunity to become World Heavyweight Champion when he challenges the Superstar he nearly dethroned at Night of Champions, Alberto Del Rio.

The ultra-popular human highlight reel gave the defending World Heavyweight Champion all he could handle during that title encounter, not only refusing to quit to the Cross Armbreaker but also successfully reaching the ropes while trapped in the hold. RVD’s resilience seemingly frustrated The Essence of Excellence, who then got himself disqualified by ignoring the referee’s orders to break the submission.

That strategy blemished Del Rio’s win-loss record, but it also ensured he would live to fight another day as World Champion. Now with another opportunity on the horizon, RVD looks to improve upon his disqualification victory and capture his first World Heavyweight Title at WWE Battleground.

Yet, as speculation mounts that WWE COO Triple H is conspiring against Superstars who joined Daniel Bryan’s uprising on Raw — a group that includes RVD — the master of the Five-Star Frog Splash may be in for more than he bargained for on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Mere seconds after Triple H visited Van Dam in the trainer’s room to inform him of the golden opportunity and wish him luck — before news of the rematch even had a chance to disseminate through the locker room — Del Rio bum-rushed the No. 1 contender. The immediacy of the World Heavyweight Champion’s ambush prompted the ever-levelheaded Michael Cole to suggest foul play was afoot.

Even if the possibility of a larger, Triple H-led plot is removed from consideration, the World Heavyweight Title Match at WWE Battleground remains a conflict packed with intrigue.

For all of 2013, Del Rio has either worn championship gold around his waist or been actively in the World Title hunt. His understated dominance — supported by an insatiable ruthlessness — now appears threatened by the double-tough Van Dam. With RVD even dusting off the freaky-athletic Van Terminator at Night of Champions, the World Heavyweight Title holder must wonder if he has met his match in the ECW Original, who just happens to be accompanied by former Del Rio ally Ricardo Rodriguez.

Which strike specialist will emerge from Buffalo, New York’s First Niagara Center with the World Heavyweight Championship? Find out by watching the inaugural edition of WWE Battleground, live on pay-per-view Sunday, Oct. 6.

CM Punk vs. Ryback (Grudge Match)

Paul Heyman can truthfully claim he pinned CM Punk with both hands tied behind his back at Night of Champions, and that is a fact The Best in the World must barely be able to stomach. At WWE Battleground, a furious Punk will look to dismantle the Superstar responsible for that humiliation when he faces Ryback. In The Human Wrecking Ball’s corner will be none other than the man he has sworn to protect, Heyman.

The Voice of the Voiceless and “The Big Guy” share a volcanic history that dates back to last fall, though the circumstances surrounding their WWE Championship series then and their grudge match at WWE Battleground could hardly be more dissimilar.

It was nearly a year ago that Punk — with the WWE Title around his waist and Heyman in his ear — became the first Superstar to stall The Human Wrecking Ball’s meteoric rise at WWE Hell in a Cell. Since that devastating setback, Ryback has rejected the WWE Universe and transformed into the ultimate bully, an abusive juggernaut who picks fights with men half his size.

At Night of Champions, Ryback scored long-awaited revenge against Punk when he not only interrupted The Second City Saint’s demolition of Heyman, but even set up the managerial mastermind for an upset win. The monstrous Ryback justified his actions by alleging — ironically, some critics say — that Punk had bullied Heyman.

So furious was Punk over his Night of Champions loss that he shunned the bright lights of Raw and SmackDown for a full week, opting instead to brood privately. When The Best in the World finally broke his silence before his hometown of Chicago on the Sept. 23 Raw, his blind rage proved detrimental: As Punk pursued a scooter-bound Heyman, he fell victim to a two-on-one beat down by Ryback and Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel.

Rather than become despondent, however, there is reason to believe Punk will grow angrier. For months, The Voice of the Voiceless has promised to obliterate anybody who steps between him and his former friend, Heyman. Yet, with a new and dangerous threat having emerged in the form of “The Big Guy,” will Punk be able to make good on his vow?

Just how far is he willing to go to remove the newest obstacle? On the flip side, what type of insight will Heyman provide to his savior, and how will his time-tested strategy complement Ryback’s brutish offense? The answers to all these questions will be known Oct. 6, when the first-ever WWE Battleground airs live on pay-per-view at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

WWE Battleground’s newly announced tag team match of Cody Rhodes & Goldust against Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins may be framed as what’s “best for business,” but make no mistake: To the Rhodes family, it’s fiercely personal.

The Shield’s Tag Team Championship gold will not be on the line, yet the stakes remain high. If the Rhodes brothers — who will have their WWE Hall of Fame father Dusty Rhodes in their corner — win, they will regain their spots on the WWE roster. If The Hounds of Justice prevail, not only will Cody Rhodes and Goldust never be rehired, but The American Dream will also lose his position at NXT, WWE’s developmental system where the Rhodes patriarch helps train the Superstars of tomorrow.

As longtime WWE fans know, the tension between the Rhodes and the McMahons dates back decades, but following Cody’s candid, if ill-advised, questioning of Randy Orton’s behavior weeks ago, WWE COO Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have seemingly made a point of humiliating the legendary family.

The list of recent indignities runs long and ranges from the firing of Cody days before his wedding to the airing of dirty laundry on Raw, when Stephanie noted Dusty and Goldust’s at-times estranged relationship. The act that pushed Cody and Goldust over the edge, however, was when Stephanie ordered Big Show to knock out The American Dream. Reluctantly, The World’s Largest Athlete complied, hoping to spare the WWE Hall of Famer an even worse fate in the form of a beatdown by The Shield.

Unable to let that deed go without a response, the second-generation Superstars retaliated in a big way a week later, bursting onto Raw and surprising The Hounds of Justice with a brief but effective ambush.

As unofficial representatives of “The Authority,” how will the reigning Tag Team Champions, dominant as they’ve been, react when they get in the ring at WWE Battleground? And with Cody and Goldust not only fighting for their and their father’s livelihoods, but also defending their family name, what can the WWE Universe expect from the proud Rhodes brothers?

Find out by watching the inaugural WWE Battleground when it airs live on pay-per-view Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella

At WWE Battleground, “Total Divas” reality may well slap Divas Champion AJ Lee in the face as she squares off against Brie Bella for the butterfly-emblazoned title.

Since her scathing condemnation of the E! hit reality show’s cast on the Aug. 26 edition of Monday Night Raw, AJ has had an understandably tumultuous relationship with the first ladies of WWE. Time after time, however, she has proved that, as sharp as her words are, her skills between the ropes are sharper.

Walking into what appeared to be a no-win situation at Night of Champions, AJ overcame the odds, successfully navigating a Fatal 4-Way Match against Natalya, Brie Bella and Naomi to leave Detroit with the championship gold. But AJ’s fortunes took a turn for the worse when Brie put her down for the three-count in a 10-Diva Tag Team Match on the Sept. 23 Raw, giving the former Divas titleholder another chance to claim her place atop the division.

With the full attention of Brie Bella — who is no doubt eager to prove that she’s more than a “cheap, interchangeable, expendable, useless woman,” to quote the champion — focused solely on her, will the mercurial AJ Lee be able to back up her brazen words? Or will WWE’s black widow find herself trapped in a web of defeat as Brie begins her second reign as queen of the mountain?

Curtis Axel vs. R-Truth (Intercontinental Championship Match)

After defeating Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel in a non-title match on the Sept. 30 episode of Raw, R-Truth declared he was ready for a title opportunity. Well, ask — and impress — and you shall receive. At WWE Battleground this Sunday, Oct. 6, The Rapping Superstar battles Axel for the prestigious Intercontinental Title.

Sunday’s bout is Truth’s first time challenging for a championship in nearly a year, as Stephanie McMahon highlighted on the Sept. 23 edition of Raw, derisively asking, “When is the last time you had a championship match? I can’t remember.” Motivated by Stephanie’s words and promising to bring a different attitude, the dancing, fun-loving WWE fan favorite could be primed to claim the illustrious title.

For third-generation Superstar Axel, meanwhile, this is an opportunity not only to continue his rapid WWE ascent, but also to avenge his Raw loss and extend his reign beyond an already remarkable 100-plus days. With each successful defense, he inches closer to his legendary WWE Hall of Famer father, Mr. Perfect, who held the Intercontinental Championship for more than 400 combined days.

In addition to the intriguing clash of styles — namely Truth’s electrifying athleticism and the champion’s brutally technical grappling — Axel’s role as a “Paul Heyman Guy” could factor into the contest. With the Heyman-CM Punk rivalry growing increasingly intense and bitter, it is possible that Punk, his Battleground opponent Ryback, Heyman or some other outside force could affect Sunday’s Intercontinental Title Match. After all, it was The Best in the World’s entrance music blaring out on Raw this past Monday that distracted Axel and gave Truth the window he needed to pick up the win.

Was that victory a one-time fluke? Or, can R-Truth defeat Axel again with the Intercontinental Championship on the line? To find out who “gets got” as a result of this high-stakes battle, watch the inaugural WWE Battleground, live on pay-per-view this Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow (Kickoff Match)

Immediately before WWE Battleground airs on pay-per-view this Sunday, tune in to the free, live-streamed Kickoff at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT to watch two of WWE’s premier singles competitors, Dolph Ziggler and Damien Sandow, square off in a match that has huge implications.

For The Showoff and Mr. Money in the Bank — a two-time World Heavyweight Champion and the self-proclaimed “uncrowned World Heavyweight Champion,” respectively — their prelude to WWE Battleground might be considered proving ground, given each Superstar’s current station in the WWE hierarchy. No perceivable animosity is driving this duel. Rather, it is a battle that could go a long way in rearranging the pecking order.

The freakishly athletic Ziggler has found success in fits and starts. He holds two separate pinfalls over United States Champion Dean Ambrose in nontitle action, but his outspokenness toward WWE COO Triple H’s decision-making in recent weeks has seemingly earned him the ire of WWE management. On occasion, Ziggler has been fed to The Shield in a variety of lopsided scenarios. All the while, The Showoff’s legions of fans clamor that he is an undervalued talent who is being unfairly deprived opportunities.

Sandow, meanwhile, is in possession of one of the most important objects in all of WWE, the Money in the Bank briefcase containing a guaranteed World Heavyweight Title match contract. Since capturing the briefcase, The Intellectual Savior of the Masses insists he is simply a cash-in away from becoming World Heavyweight Champion.

Can Sandow keep up with the endlessly energetic and effortlessly agile Ziggler? And just which version of “The Enlightened One” will show up to Buffalo, N.Y.’s First Niagara Center — the prim intellectual or the raw-boned slugger who has shown a surprising knack for brawling?

Which Superstar on the brink of breaking into WWE’s upper echelon will score the all-important victory? Find out by watching the WWE Battleground Kickoff, which streams live Sunday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT on WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Google+, Samsung Smart TVs, Xbox, Sony PS3, Pinterest and Pheed.

Espero bem que haja estipulação no Rob Van Dam Vs. Alberto Del Rio. Um ladder match era xuxu. E tem-se falado num Ironman entre o Orren e o Daniel Bryan. Espero que seja apenas de 30 minutos. Não estou para aturar 1h de Randy Orren.

Ainda me lembro da 1 hour Iron Man Match entre o John Cena e o Randy.
