The Organising Committee met at the Kazan Tennis Academy and approved the draw procedures of the Official Draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

 

The show, which will unveil the road to the coveted trophy of the Tournament of Champions, will take place at the same venue on Saturday 26 November and will be conducted by FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General for Football, Zvonimir Boban, and Chief Competitions & Events Officer, Colin Smith. They will be assisted by five-time Russian Premier League winner Sergei Semak and two-time Olympic gold medallist Yelena Isinbaeva.

 

Hosts Russia and the three top teams based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released earlier today (Germany, Chile and Portugal) will be in Pot 1, with the next four teams (Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and the African contender to be known in February) in Pot 2. They will then be drawn one by one into two groups – A and B – and their position within Groups A and B will be determined by drawing balls from the respective group pots. A full explanation of the draw procedures can be found at the top of the related items on the right-hand side of this article.

 

At the same meeting, the Organising Committee members also approved the tournament’s regulations, which are now also available on FIFA.com. These regulations come into force with immediate effect, subject to the approval of the FIFA Council on 10 January 2017.

Regras do Sorteio

DRAW MECHANICS

 

• Teams will be drawn into groups in alternating fashion throughout the Official Draw (i.e. Group A then Group B, repeating).

 

• The draw starts with Pot 1 and ends with Pot 2. Pot 1 is completely emptied before moving on to the Pot 2.

 

Starting with "Pot 1", the teams will be drawn as follows:

 

- Beginning with Russia, the red bail from 'Pot T will be ceremoniously drawn followed by the red bail from 'Group A' to allocate Russia's position as Al.

 

- The second team, in a white bail, will be drawn randomly followed by a bail from 'Group B' to allocate the team's position in group B.

 

- The procedure is repeated for the remaining two teams in Pot 1.

 

• Team "Pot 2", containing the teams of Australia, Mexico and New Zealand, and the winner of CAF to be determined in February 2017, will then be drawn followed by a bail from one of the groups (A followed by B), thus determining the position in which the respective team will play.

 

• Although it is FIFA's general principle to ensure that no group has more than one team from the same confédération drawn into it, the presence of three European teams in the tournament doesn't allow the adhérence to the principle. Hence either Portugal or Germany may be drawn into Group A with Russia, or else Portugal and Germany may be drawn together into Group B.

Devia ser uma de cada confederação. No caso da Europa teria sempre de haver duas. A campeã europeia e o país organizador. Assim as regras são um pouco alteradas. Nunca duas selecções da mesma confederação podem ficar no mesmo grupo.
