Eric Bischoff announced this match during the week as a consequence of Flair’s challenging the tag team champions last week, as he says that Flair and Buff are completely unproven as a tag team and a title shot must be earned.

 

Scott Hudson: And in our main event, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, and Rob Van Dam will compete in a Triple Threat match. The winner of this match will become the number one contender for Jeff Jarrett's WCW World Heavyweight Championship. But, guys, there's been news this week about the special guest referee, Rick Steiner. He was injured last week, and we're not sure if he'll be able to officiate this match.

 

Tony Schiavone: That's right, Scott. The question is, who will step in as the special guest referee? This adds an interesting element to an already intense match.
