Ok, vi a SuperBowl no domingo (2ª?, who cares?) e foi o meu primeiro jogo de futebol americano, mas fiquei maravilhado. Levou-me para cima duma hora e tal a compreender as regras como deve de ser, mas acho que fiquei a perceber mais ou menos como funcionam as coisas. Acho que fiquei fã do desporto, apesar das paragens todas, gostei bastante do jogo e da vitória dos Saints. Btw, simpatizo com os Chicago Bears, eles prestam para alguma coisa? Como é que vocês vêem jogos, a fase regular e os playoffs dão na SportTV? Tenho de passar a ir consultando este tópico...

 

Não vou ver, mesmo que não tenha nada para fazer.

A regular season dava um jogo por semana à segunda à noite. Também davam jogos na ESPN. E o playoff dava também um jogo por semana, mas aí, se não me engano, ou era ao Sábado ou Domingo.

Setembro, dia 9 para ser mais exacto com os Saints, como vencedores da Superbowl, a abrirem as hostilidades jogando em casa... Mas devem de transmitir os jogos de preparação em Agosto.

 

Quanto aos Bears ficaram em 3º na sua divisão com um recorde de 7-9. Mas estão a construir uma equipa em torno do Jay Cutler, que foi pro-bowler no ano passado. Na defesa ainda são liderados Urlacher embora este tenha perdido a época por lesão. Na minha opinião têm um futuro promissor...

ó Road, eu só comecei a ver esta época. Por isso também ainda não percebo tudo completamente, há um par de coisas que ainda não sei, mas de resto, percebo praticamente tudo e só me falta ter mais cultura a nível da nomenclatura.

 

E os Saints foram a primeira equipa que vi um jogo, e adorei. E ainda me lembro do jogaço contra os Red Skins. A próxima época começa quando? E dos Saints ainda só captei alguns nomes, o Reggie Bush, o Drew Brees e o Tracy Porter. E o Velma ( wilma? wtf).

Btw o meu top3 desta época

 

Positivo:

 

1- Saints, não é preciso dizer nada

 

2- Colts, fizeram quase tudo bem, na super bowl pareciam que ia ganhar, mas os ulitmos 5 minutos foram muito maus.

 

3- Vikings, estiveram quase na super bowl, mesmo assim foi uma época bastante positiva

 

 

Negativo:

 

1- Steelers - Sempre detestei esta equipa ver eles este ano deu-me um gozo enorme.

 

2- Patriots - Meteram o peso todo em cima do Tom, esqueceram-se de uma coisa chamada defense.

 

3- Giants :lol:

 

 

Surpresas:

 

1- Jets, grande surpresa estiveram perto.

 

2- Bengals, o Benson foi um terror

 

3- Cowboys, finalmente passaram a primeira ronda dos play offs, coisa que não acontecia já alguns anos.

 

 

Rookies:

 

1- Percy Harvin rookie do ano e merecido, jogou tanto :prayer:

 

2- Brian Cushing, boa parte da epoca positiva que os Texans fizeram foi devido a ele.

 

3- Michael Oher, Ravens agradecem a época dele.

Alguem que tenha seguido sabe dar-me mais ou menos um ponto da situaçao em relaçao aos Seahawks desta epoca que passou? Uma coisa pequena, so um reviewzito.

Comecei a gostar deles por causa do jogo Madden NFL 07, alias, foi nesse jogo que conheci alguns jogadores e comecei a aprender algumas regras..

Os Seahawks desde de 2007 não chegam ao play-offs, têm ficado sempre em 3º na NFC West, atrás de Cardinals em 1º e 49ers em 2º.

 

Neste momento estão em fase de reestruturação da equipa, pois este ano perderam 14 elementos, sendo que ao longo destes dois anos perderam a força porque eram conhecidos, ou seja, a defesa. Também não é alheio o 3º lugar na divisão ao facto de Arizona ter melhorado significativamente com a chegada do Warner que agora se retira...

 

Aproveitando a ideia do FIFAMANIAC, vou fazer o meu top 3:

 

Positivo:

1º Saints - óbvio, venceram o Superbowl e fizeram uma grande época;

2º Colts - Faltou um bocadinho assim;

3º Jets - Ninguém dava nada por eles e vejam onde chegaram;

3º Vikings - Não podia deixá-los de por, chegaram à final da conferência onde protagonizaram um grande jogo com os Saints

 

Desilusões

1º Steelers - Ganharam a SuperBowl o ano passado e este ano nem foram aos playoffs;

2º Giants - Mesma razão que os Steelers (em vez de ano passado deve-se ler dois anos);

3º Eagles - Perderam numa semana a vantagem de jogar em casa o jogo wild card (ainda por cima ficaram a zeros) e perderam esse mesmo jogo

 

Surpresas

1º Jets - ver nos pontos positivos

2º Cowboys - Ao contrário dos Eagles em uma semana recuperaram o sonho de vencer a SuperBowl

3º Packers - Recuperaram da perda do Favre chegando aos playoffs e mostraram que podem chegar longe

 

Rookies

1º Percy Harvin - Deu asas ao ataque dos Vikings

2º Mark Sanchez - Levou os Jets até à final de conferência

3º Brian Orakpo - A melhor coisa que aconteceu a Washington este ano

 

MVP

1º Drew Brees - Venceu o Superbowl, conduziu a equipa para um recorde de 13-3

2º Peyton Manning - Levou-os ao Superbowl, obteve o melhor recorde da liga 14-2

3º Favre e Warnes - Os veteranos QB's tiveram uma grande época mostrando que velhos são os trapos, conduzindo ambas as equipas aos playoffs

É um equipa que não é considerada favorita anda sempre a meio ou fins da tabela.

Pete Carroll foi contratado para a próxima época e pelos vistos ele quer dar outra dimensão á equipa.

Eles este ano tiveram um record de 5-11-0, penso que foi a 5º ou 6º equipa com mais derrotas contando com todas divisões.

 

Eles teem um grupo jeitoso, e até nem estão numa divisão onde os directo adversários são papões, talvez falta de sorte, não sei.

 

Tem lá jogadores jeitosos, o Hasselbeck até esteve bem este ano, teve bons stats, o Carlson teve uma época engraçada, com 7 TD, comparado no ano passado teve menos jardas, menos jardas por jogo e ainda menos receiving mas mesmo assim conseguiu fazer mais TD que no ano passado.

 

O Forsett (já andou pelos Colts) é um bom RB, rápido, forte e com um excelente sentido de oportunidade e isso reflectiu-se este ano, ele explodiu, deram-lhe uma oportunidade e ele aproveitou.

 

O Edgerrin também não é mau.

 

Não sei, talvez com o Carroll possa dar uma nova cara á equipa, mas é umas das equipas que vou acompanhar o training camp.

Pois eu lembro-me do Shaun Alexander, um running back que julgo ate chegou a ser MVP da epoca regular quando fomos a SuperBowl, mas depois quando ia ver as rosters de anos seguintes, pareceu ter-se eclipsado... agora esta FA.

A ver se na epoca que se avizinha consigo segui-los mais de perto. Pena serem tao poucos jogos, vamos a ver.

Eli Manning: Peyton did all he could in Super Bowl

 

 

 

 

 

As the Saints celebrated their Super Bowl championship Sunday night, Colts QB Peyton Manning trudged off the Sun Life Stadium field dejected after missing out on a second ring.

 

His younger brother, Giants QB Eli Manning, attended the game and told ESPN Radio New York’s Michael Kay on Tuesday that the Colts’ loss was hard to watch.

 

“I was rooting so hard for my brother,” Eli said (via Sports Radio Interviews). “I’ve obviously been there in the Super Bowl (two seasons ago against the Patriots), and you prepare all season and it’s so hard to get to that situation, so hard to get there. I just felt for him.

 

“I got to speak to him after the game a little bit, and I talked to him today. He’s doing good. I just told him he did everything he could, and without him on that team, they wouldn’t be anywhere near what they’ve done or capable of doing.”

 

In fact, Eli agreed with Kay that the Colts would be a 6-10 team without Peyton, who has been criticized by fans and some media members after the 31-17 loss.

 

“No question,” Eli said. “I think he makes every player on that team better. … I think he’s earned the respect of every coach, player, announcer, anybody who is a fan of football.”

 

Eli also said he was surprised by the Saints’ onside kick to start the second half — “I wasn’t even in my seat yet” — and he wasn’t exactly sure what happened on Tracy Porter’s game-changing interception of a Peyton pass in the fourth quarter.

 

But Eli did provide some insight into how his brother is feeling after the loss.

 

“I think you’re always disappointed when you have such a tremendous season and get so far,” he said. “I think he knows as well as anyone how difficult it is to get to the Super Bowl, having been to the playoffs many times, having been in AFC Championship Games, divisional games. It’s tough. It’s tough on everybody just to get to the Super Bowl. So obviously he’s going to be disappointed and upset.”

Panthers' silence on new contract 'kind of a turnoff' for Peppers

 

 

 

 

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Julius Peppers no longer wants a long-term contract with the Carolina Panthers, saying the team has ignored him this offseason.

 

In an interview that aired Tuesday morning on Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end indicated he's irritated by the team's "silence" and has changed his stance on whether he wants to continue his career with the Panthers.

 

"Last year, at the time, that was the option that I wanted most," Peppers said. "Now it's not."

While agent Carl Carey said last week that he believes the Panthers aren't interested in retaining Peppers, Carolina's career sacks leader, team officials haven't announced their plans for the impending free agent. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday.

 

"How can you say you want to be somewhere when you're not really sure if they want you there because they're not even talking to you?" Peppers said.

 

It's another twist in a long-running saga between the two sides.

 

After being held to a career-low 2.5 sacks in 2007, the Panthers still offered to make Peppers the NFL's highest-paid defensive player. Peppers on Tuesday provided conflicting reasons on why he rejected the contract.

 

"That deal was to make me the highest-paid defensive player, but slightly, very slightly," Peppers said. "I didn't really feel the sincerity behind that deal."

 

But later in the rambling answer during the radio interview, Peppers also indicated that he wasn't worthy of such a deal.

 

"I had 2.5 sacks that season, and they're coming to offer me being the highest-paid defensive player. Like, I can't even accept that," Peppers said. "I'm not deserving of that."

 

Peppers bounced back with a career-high 14.5 sacks in 2008, then announced he wanted to play elsewhere and pleaded with the Panthers to let him leave in free agency. He said Tuesday he wanted out because he was upset with the team's direction under then-defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac.

 

"In my eyes, I didn't see us getting any better on that side of the ball," Peppers said. "I felt like it was time to try somewhere else, do something else. But things changed. They brought in new people."

 

Trgovac and defensive line coach Sal Sunseri left. Ron Meeks took over the defense, and Brian Baker replaced Sunseri. At the same time, the Panthers placed the restrictive franchise tag on Peppers, limiting his options in free agency.

 

"I never felt that they did that with the intent to keep me here," Peppers said. "I felt like they did that in attempt to send me off somewhere else to get compensation, draft picks or whatever."

 

There was no deal, and Peppers eventually changed his tune, beginning negotiations on a long-term contract with the Panthers. But a deal couldn't be reached, and Peppers played under the one-year tender worth an NFL-high $16.7 million. After recording 10.5 sacks, Peppers made the Pro Bowl and received a $1.5 million bonus.

 

The Panthers could use the franchise tag on Peppers again in 2010, but it would include a 20 percent raise. Peppers would be due $20.1 million, plus another $1.5 million Pro Bowl bonus and $250,000 for each playoff victory.

 

Carolina could use the franchise tag again and try to trade Peppers, but he would almost certainly first have to agree to a long-term deal with that team.

 

 

 

 

Several teams, such as the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, could be interested, but there also are questions about Peppers' inconsistency. He acknowledged Tuesday that even former Panthers defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, now coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, told Peppers during his rookie year in 2002 that it doesn't appear he's playing hard on every down.

 

"I told him just because it doesn't look like I'm running as hard as the next man with my arms swinging, sweating and breathing hard doesn't mean I'm not trying as hard," Peppers said. "I'm still trying hard, it just doesn't look like it. I do it easier."

 

And despite 81 sacks in eight seasons, Peppers' future is murky. The Panthers have until Feb. 25 to use the franchise tag on him.

 

"The silence says a lot without saying anything," Peppers said. "That is kind of a turnoff."

Expect Favre, other QBs to dominate offseason discussion

The season may be over, but the NFL never stops. The combine is just a few weeks away, and free agency follows shortly thereafter. Player acquisitions this offseason might not be as attention-grabbing as player departures. Let's look at 10 storylines for the offseason, with the top slot going to Brett Favre for the second straight year.

 

 

 

 

1. Favre's future: The drama might not be as great as last year, when we were thrown for a curve when the New York Jets cut Favre to kick-start his desire to play again for the Minnesota Vikings, but there will be drama. Favre likely will string out the process. He played at an MVP-type level and was as healthy as he'd been in years. He also endeared himself to his teammates, who desperately want him back. If Favre watched the Super Bowl, it also had to hit him in the gut knowing that could have been the Vikings hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, if not for his interception in the waning moments of the NFC Championship Game.

 

2. Labor deal: The bickering between the NFL and the Players Association might not resonate much with the general public now, but it will come early March, when free agency starts and there is barely a ripple of movement. If the owners and NFLPA don't reach an accord by March 1, unrestricted free agents like Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall or Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell become restricted for two more years. A team like the Bears, which doesn't have a first- or second-round pick, might not be able to fortify its roster much this offseason. Even worse, if there is no collective bargaining agreement in place in just more than a year from now, there could be a work stoppage in 2011. That would be a shame.

 

3. Michael Vick: We're not talking about his television reality show. Like Favre, Vick could dominate headlines this offseason, just like he did last offseason, but for much more positive and football-related reasons. The Eagles' backup quarterback is primo trade-bait for a team (the St. Louis Rams, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers) in need of a starting quarterback. There's even a chance that Vick could be released because of a $1.5 million roster bonus due in early March. There is a lot of talk coming out of Philly that the Eagles might hang onto Vick, but all it takes is one team to make a good offer. We still don't know if Vick will turn into what he was -- a three-time Pro Bowler, who provided a sense of electricity into every game -- but he might be worth the risk to a whole lot of teams in need of an upgrade.

 

4. Can Who Dat do dat again?: The Saints are still partying after Sunday's Super Bowl victory. Soon, though, they'll have to decide what to do with a load of free agents and other veteran players that helped them earn the Lombardi Trophy. Darren Sharper was one of the best free-agent signings of last offseason, but the Saints have to wonder if the 13-year vet, who is a pending free agent, has at least one more year left in him. Reggie Bush is owed $8 million in 2010, but is that too hefty for a part-time player, albeit a valuable one? New Orleans will likely retain most of this roster because of its success.

 

5. Julius Peppers/Terrell Owens: While the free-agent pool looks to be small, Peppers and Owens are vets who could be looking for work with different teams. Peppers' days in Carolina appear over and Arizona's Darnell Dockett is lobbying for Peppers to join him. The Cardinals might not pony up for a guy like Peppers (and if they do, the contract Dockett's been clamoring for might not materialize), but someone (Chicago, New England, New Orleans) could. As for Owens, the suitors aren't going to be rushing for his services, and it will be interesting to see if anyone brings him in, especially since there are a few teams in need.

 

6. Tim Tebow: The Florida quarterback isn't close to being the best quarterback entering the draft, but he's the most decorated and scrutinized. Will he go anywhere close to the first or second round? What team will take a flyer on the ultimate college gamer, whose mechanics need a lot of work before he's ready to see playing time in the NFL? On that note, the race to be the top quarterback selected between Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen and Oklahoma's Sam Bradford will be interesting; as will be the team that rolls the dice first on a quarterback.

 

7. Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Jay Cutler: As we try to peg which of the incoming quarterbacks will materialize, it's time for the class of 2006 to show itself. Leinart may be most on the hot seat because he takes over (at least it appears that way now) for Kurt Warner. Young was very good after taking over six games into the season, and it's time for him to take the next step in his second go-round as the full-time starter. All eyes will really be on Cutler. He's working with Mike Martz as offensive coordinator now, and he's going to be pushed. The Bears gave up a lot to get Cutler and he needs to show that the investment was worthwhile. Otherwise, heads other than his, will roll.

 

8. LaDainian Tomlinson: It's always bittersweet when a franchise player is no longer the franchise's player. The split between L.T. and the Chargers is inevitable. The harsher reality might be that there aren't any takers once he hits the open market. Teams are becoming more reluctant to invest much into veteran running backs, and with vets like Larry Johnson, Willie Parker and Chester Taylor possibly on the open market, Tomlinson might have to wait a while to find work.

 

9. Quarterbacks hitting it big: Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are in line for big money, and they're about to re-set the pay scale. It could be interesting to see who signs first, and sets the bar for the other two. Though Manning and Brady will probably top the chart, Brees can't be paid enough for what he's done for the Gulf Coast region.

 

10. Brandon Marshall/Josh McDaniels: Can this strained relationship be mended? Marshall is a dynamic player, but he might not be worth the headache. A (likely restricted) free agent, Denver probably will tender him to retain his rights. It probably will entertain trade offers and will make a deal if it gets something too good to refuse. I can't see them moving him just to move him, though. They better get something comparable in return. The Dolphins and Bears could use a difference-maker like Marshall, especially Chicago, where he could be reunited with Cutler. Thing is, Chicago doesn't have much trade ammo, having emptied the vault for Cutler.

Btw já se começa a ver alguns nomes para o draft e graças á entrada na NFL do Mark Sanchez e do Matthew Stafford este ano já existem alguns nomes para se ter atenção, nomeadamente o Jimmy Clausen , o Sam Bradford (era para ter entrado no ultimo draft e iria ser quase um Sanchez vs Bradford, mas ele decidiu voltar para a escola, mas lesionou-se no inicio) entretanto tem outros que não são os melhores, mas mesmo assim devem ser acompanhados, caso do Tim Tebow e do Colt McCoy.

Não vi nenhum jogo do Clausen, por isso não sei direito o que vale... Quanto aos outros o Bradford lembro-me de ver o ano passado e pensar "vai ser grande", assim como o McCoy também gostei muito de o ver, o Tebow tem havido rumores que os Jaguars estão interessados em leva-lo para lá de modo a encher o estádio e a interessar as pessoas na franchise, é pouco de Lebron James, a nível de hype, mas parece-me dos 3 o menos dotado e o que tem de trabalhar mais, tem um bom running game, mas a nível de passe deixa um pouco a desejar, não se ele não ganharia em ir para uma equipa que tenho um QB veterano e trabalhando esta época de maneira a melhorar e para a próxima começar de início...

 

Quanto ao resto espero ver o Favre na próxima época, o Vick se o McNabb não for trocado deverá sê-lo, também estou curioso em ver o Leinart a comandar o ataque de Arizona com Fitzgerald e o Boldin, Arizona que é uma equipa que precisa de arranjar mais um QB.

Positivo:

1º Saints - obviamente, pelo 13-0 que impuseram de inicio (1ª derrota contra os cowboys :cool:) e pela vitoria no Superbowl. Grande época.

2º Vikings - de desacreditados a candidatos ao titulo. Favre soube liderar e o Petterson esteve imparável. Falharam o Superbowl por um TO.

3º Colts - liderados pelo MVP, o Superbowl era o mínimo que se exigia. Não conseguiram o titulo, mas estiveram muito bem.

4º Jets/Cowboys - também desacreditados. O 1º com um rookie à QB e o 2º com uma linha ofensiva muito mediana conseguiram chegar a final e meia-final da conferencia, respectivamente.

 

Negativo:

1º Steelers - dos campeões em titulo esperava-se muito mais. Nem aos PO chegaram. Convém referir que a lesão do Polamanu (ou isso) no 1º jogo foi determinante para o fracasso a nível defensivo.

2º Patriots - tinham equipa para ir ao Spuperbowl (com alguma sorte, vá) e nem a final da conferencia foram.

3º Giants - mau de mais. tinham equipa para ficar em primeiro na divisão. Ganharam aos Cowboys duas vezes e mesmo assim ficaram em 3º
