Tenho a sensação que do ponto de vista Russo a guerra se aproxima da fase final. Ou melhor, do que eles querem que seja o fim - isto não é como um namoro, não acaba quando um decide.

 

Eles já têm aquela metade sul abaixo do Dniepre, estão a 'isto' de concluir o Donbass - o alegado causus belii do ponto de vista jurídico - já conseguiram que a Crimeia volta a ter água (o que eu desde o inicio acho que é uma das principais - mas mais olvidadas - razões para a guerra), e agora já têm o batalhão Azov para apresentar como vitória simbolica. Ou seja, por eles, contentam-se com isto, com manter isto.

De outra sorte, bombardearam extensivamente o resto da Ucrania - a parte "que não lhes interessa" - garantiram que em termos de infraestruturas militares a Ucrania esteja 'arrumada', ao nivel do desenvolvimento meteram a Ucrania nos anos 50, um Estado falhado que o Ocidente vai ter de sustentar. Win, win.

Ou seja, prevejo que após conquistarem os ultimos pontos do Donbass, pela Russia a coisa fica por aí, passou-bem, amigos como dantes, ok Ucranianos?

Claro que para os ucranianos não estarão muito interessados em que a guerra acabe assim. Era preciso haver muito mais desmoralização e bastante desunião entre o lado ucraiano para que se concordasse com uma rendição que desse à Russia - nem que seja apenas de facto e não de jure - o Dombass, Crimeia, e a costa entre o rio Dniepre e o mar Azov. Quer dizer, já houve quem assinasse armistícios tão ou mais draconianos, mas eram países perfeitamente derrotados.

Concordo que isto se deve ficar pela tomada do leste e sul. Mas eu por acaso acho que os Russos neste momento não têm pressa nenhuma em acabar rápido a guerra.

Eles partiram para isto com duas hipóteses, a primeira falhou brutalmente, que seria Kiev amedrontar-se e vergar numa questão de dias, entretanto surgiu a outra, que é esta fase da guerra em que estamos, uma guerra de atrição, de artilharia, de destruição sistemática do material, dos homens e dos recursos inimigos, ou seja, a especialidade Russa, a forma como o seu exército está formado, a sua doutrina e já a forma como ganharam a 2a guerra. É um tipo de guerra necessariamente lento mas que dá os resultados que eles querem, de ocupação de território e, segundo eles, eliminação da ameaça futura ao seu território. Isto porque não há dados das perdas Ucranianas, mas são obrigatoriamente enormes, sendo que já se vai na 4a ronda de recrutamento e não têm capacidade para substituir ou rodar as tropas profissionais por muitas armas e material que recebam.

Ukraine Says May Grain Exports Down More Than 60% Compared To 2021 In Latest Alarming Sign Of International Food Crisis

Grain exports from Ukraine are down 64% so far in May compared to the same timeframe last year, the country’s agriculture ministry said Thursday according to Interfax Ukraine.

Known as one of the world’s breadbaskets for its agricultural production, Ukraine accounted for 10% of global wheat exports in 2021, according to the United Nations, while Russia produced about 17% of all wheat globally.

Ukraine’s ports have suspended activities since the war launched due to Russian blockades, and the U.N. estimates about 20 million tons of harvested grain are stuck in the country.

The port blockades will cause millions to die if they continue, David Beasley, head of the United Nations World Food Programme, told CNN last week, as countries globally rely on Ukraine, also one of the leading exporters of corn and sunflower oil and meal, for basic nutrition needs.

Wheat futures rose to all-time highs this week after India restricted exports on the commodity amid a heatwave, and wheat prices have jumped more than 60% this year, contributing to what the UN estimates is a one-third jump in food prices globally in the last year.

Global hunger is at a “new high,” U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said Thursday, estimating “tens of millions” of people worldwide will “edge into food insecurity, followed by malnutrition, mass hunger and famine, in a crisis that could last for years.”

As a result of the rising number of cases, ministers have ordered more stocks of the smallpox vaccine, which is being offered to people who may have been exposed.

Why Russia’s Economy Hasn’t Collapsed Under The Weight Of Sanctions

In a globalized world that is already suffering from supply chain problems, an energy shortage, and an economic slowdown, it is remarkable that sanctions have failed to bring Russia’s economy to its knees.

Firstly, and most importantly, it is Russia’s unique position as a net exporter of both energy and key foodstuffs that has allowed it to stay afloat. If similar sanctions had been placed on a net importer like China, for example, you could eventually expect deindustrialization, famine, and mass unrest. It would be a disaster. Russia, on the other hand, is uniquely positioned to survive this economic assault. It is also able to run a massive trade surplus because of its energy exports and because oil and gas prices are at multi-year highs. Its strong trading relations with both China and India have ensured that plenty of foreign currency is flowing into Russia to calm any fears of insolvency. More foreign currency is coming from the EU, which simply cannot wean itself off Russian natural gas and is struggling to ban Russian oil imports. Of course, all of this foreign currency would be worthless if Russia was unable to use it because of sanctions. That fact is what caused ratings agencies to warn of an imminent debt default by Russia back in April. But once again, Russia has been able to defy expectations here by taking advantage of a sanctions loophole.

The ‘sovereign debt carve-out’ is an exemption that the U.S. government created in its sanctions policy in order to allow for debt repayments. This means that Russia has been able to service its debt and avoid default. That exemption, however, is set to expire on May 25. If it isn’t extended, Russia could still default if this isn’t extended as it has $100 million in interest payments due two days later. The most recent news out of Washington suggests that the Treasury Department is leaning toward blocking Russian debt payments, with Russia’s finance minister claiming it will resort to paying in rubles.
