A grande representante do basquetebol português deu a conhecer que esta será a sua última temporada como jogadora. Depois de ter começado a sua carreira profissional nas Sacramento Monarchs e depois de ter passado pelas Los Angeles Sparks, as Chicago Sky são a última etapa numa carreira recheada de sucesso e na qual a base da Figueira da Foz elevou bem alto o nome de Portugal.

 

"Como se costuma dizer 'tudo o que é bom, tem de acabar', e infelizmente, chegou o tempo de sair deste jogo que tanto amo. Quero agradecer a todas as pessoas que estiveram envolvidas na minha carreira: desde os meus treinadores e treinadoras, às minhas colegas, passando pela WNBA e, claro, os adeptos. O basquetebol deu-me mais do que alguma vez poderia imaginar e continuarei a retribuir e a manter-me proxima desde fantástico desporto. Obrigado a todos, do fundo do meu coração, pelo apoio ao longo destes anos!"

 

Termina assim a carreira da jogadora com mais assistências feitas na NBA, da atleta que estabeleceu o máximo de 16 assistências num só jogo, da segunda melhor de sempre em roubos de bola, de uma das atletas nomeadas para o restrito lote do Top15 da competição. Ticha foi ainda campeã da liga ao serviço das Sacramento Monarchs, participou em 4 edições do All-Star Game e foi escolhida por duas vezes para a Equipa Ideal da WNBA.

 

O último jogo de Ticha está agendado para o próximo Sábado, quando as Sky defrontarem as Washington Mystics.

 

Para os norte-americanos, é o ponto final na carreira da jogadora com mais assistências na liga feminina. Para nós, portugueses, é o ponto final na carreira da estrela maior do nosso basquetebol.

An enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) can have various causes. But it's usually caused by high blood pressure (hypertension) or coronary artery disease.

 

An enlarged heart may not pump blood effectively, resulting in congestive heart failure. Cardiomegaly may improve over time. But most people with an enlarged heart need lifelong treatment with medications.

"Chance is better than not" that Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye's enlarged heart can recover

Suns cardiologist Dr. Tim Byrne said "the chance is better than not" that forward Channing Frye's enlarged heart can recover to normal and allow him to resume playing in the NBA.

 

Frye, Byrne and Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby talked about Frye's heart condition and outlook at a press conference on Friday, a day after it was revealed that Frye has a dilated cardiomyopathy. Byrne said Frye's heart valves are perfect and that genetics are an unlikely cause, leaving the probable cause as a virus.

 

Frye told azcentral sports Thursday that he expected to miss the season with doctors telling him that he will need about six months of rest. He will be re-evaluated in December but the chances that he would play this season are extremely slim.

 

 

"I'm not done yet," Frye reiterated Friday. "I still have a lot to prove. I felt great coming in. I was ready to not only drain some 3s but post up a little."

 

Byrne said each patient's heart reacts differently but that Frye's good condition and early diagnosis gives him better hope at recovery. If Frye is cleared, Byrne said he would be able to participate fully.

 

"Being realistic, our expectation is that he well may miss the season," Babby said. "The priority is on his well-being."

 

Babby said the Suns will not do "anything dramatic" with the roster due to Frye's loss. They could receive medical insurance compensation on his salary for this season once he misses more than half the season. They are not eligible for an exception for his spot because their payroll is under the salary cap. If it proved to be a career-ending injury, the Suns could receive cap relief from his salary on the one-year anniversary of his last game.
