O Thibs foi o melhor treinador que passou por Chicago em muitos largos anos, não é um treinador perfeito e tem as suas lacunas, e a sua saida até poderia ser expectável, mas nunca deveria sair sozinho e como bode expiatório de uma sucessão de epocas em que muito se prometia e nada foi atingido.

 

Assim, com a sua saida, apenas nada mais é do que uma operação de maquilhagem, que possivelmente será substituida por outra bem pior.

 

Enquanto isso, o cancro John Paxson e sobretudo o cancro Gar Forman, irão continuar na nossa incompetência que impede os Bulls de ganharem o que quer que seja. Limitam-se a sugar o dinheiro e meter-se onde não devem, para no fim acabarem sempre por dar as mesmas desculpas.

 

Prevem-se mais anos de zero absoluto.

 

Que o Thibs regresse rapidamente á NBA porque merece, e é muito triste ver uma franchise histórica como os Bulls tratarem assim um treinador. È humilhante e nada digno.

 

E ver como os Bulls sao geridos tendo como comparação outra grande franchise de Chicago (os Hawks) mete dó. È como comparar a noite com o dia.

No call for Jerry Reinsdorf's ungracious parting with Tom Thibodeau

 

Judging by Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf's parting shots at fired coach Tom Thibodeau in a 231-word statement Thursday, no wonder the organization struggled with healthy and professional internal communication.

 

It starts at the top. This was Reinsdorf's public goodbye? Candor is one thing but the manner Reinsdorf assailed Thibodeau on his way out the Advocate Center door was not a good look for the Bulls. Thank Thibodeau for his effort, wish him luck doing his next job and move on.

 

Instead, Reinsdorf left no doubt he believed Thibodeau had done more harm in the building than good on the court and, rather than thanking Thibs for being the Bulls' best coach since Phil Jackson, he buried him in bureaucratic garble.

 

"There must be free and open interdepartmental discussion and consideration of everyone's ideas and opinions,'' Reinsdorf said. "These internal discussions must not be considered an invasion of turf, and must remain private. … When everyone is on the same page, trust develops and teams can grow and succeed together. Unfortunately, there has been a departure from this culture.''

 

Thibodeau won 65 percent of his regular-season games, made the playoffs five straight injury-filled seasons and thanklessly served as the spokesman as Derrick Rose's first return became an organizational circus. Yet Reinsdorf scolded him like his tenure was worse than Tim Floyd's. Whereas Thibodeau issued a classy statement expressing gratitude to everyone from Reinsdorf to former players to the fans, his former boss branded him a divisive force.

 

Around the league, you wonder if the Bulls' second straight messy firing raised as many questions about their ability to get along with head coaches as it did about Thibodeau's attitude. Reinsdorf's pointed comments hardly helped that perception. Did ESPN's Jeff Van Gundy's words during a broadcast in January really sting the chairman that badly?

 

Those of us calling for Reinsdorf to intervene in the split between Thibodeau and Bulls executives John Paxson and Gar Forman didn't consider he was driving the wedge deeper. We assume that now thanks to Reinsdorf's official declaration in the release announcing Thibodeau's dismissal, though nobody could ask Reinsdorf about his thinly veiled criticism because he didn't attend Thursday's news conference.

 

Paxson and Forman did and, for all their talk about improving communication, said more with what they didn't say. Asked to elaborate on Reinsdorf's implications, both men declined to include specifics but depicted a workplace environment polluted by Thibodeau's presence. Paxson described the ideal organization in which "you can have open dialogue, where there are no barriers, where walls are taken down.''

 

"You should be able to ask whatever question you want to ask,'' Paxson said. "You should be able to push the envelope in terms of anything in order to have some success. That's what relationships should be about.''

 

In the end, the Bulls fired Thibodeau based on the belief that improving relationships will improve their results. We'll see. The rhetoric sounded more like a corporation hosting a management seminar than a professional sports team firing its coach over issues with trust and communication and everyone "pulling in the same direction.'' What about basketball reasons?

 

When players started resisting Thibodeau's ways as several expressed in exit interviews, according to sources, the front office's misery found company — and an opening to make a move. Still, both sides bear responsibility for letting this basketball marriage dissolve and it would have been nice to have heard Bulls management remind everyone of that as Thibodeau was being cast as a neurotic workaholic who drove people away. And maybe Thibodeau is that impossible guy to work with but he also happens to be a coach who gave the Bulls an identity from 2010-2015 even though he coached more games without Rose than with him.

 

You didn't need tweets from President Barack Obama and Bears legend Brian Urlacher to realize Thibodeau's reputation across the country. Any list of the top five NBA head coaches since 2010 includes Thibodeau. Yet the Bulls want everyone to believe they are closer to winning a championship without one of the league's best coaches than with him. They aren't.

 

Go ahead and lure Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg away and watch the national narrative shift to the kinder, gentler player-friendly Bulls organization. Hoiberg offers terrific credentials; experience as an NBA player and executive, success as a college head coach, perspective for being as likable as he is qualified. Under Hoiberg next year, the Bulls promise to be the friendliest No. 6 seed in the East.

 

Seriously, Hoiberg likely will embrace analytics and accept minutes limits — whatever management wants. He probably will keep his office door open instead of locked. He figures to relate well to players rather than drive them away. One day, many league observers expect Hoiberg to be an excellent NBA coach.

 

You know, like Thibodeau, who deserved more respect on the day the Bulls concluded they had more than enough without him.

Who becomes next Bulls coach that John Paxson will fire?

 

John Paxson will choose another coach for the Bulls.

In a move everyone expected since, I don’t know, last summer, Tom Thibodeau was dismissed Thursday morning.

 

He becomes the third real coach hired and fired since Paxson became the hoops honcho in 2003. I’m not counting Pete Myers and Jim Boylan because no one else does. I’m looking at Scott Skiles, Vinny Del Negro and now Thibodeau.

 

Paxson has hired a taskmaster, a joke and a taskmaster.

Paxson fired Skiles on Christmas Eve because Paxson’s roster wouldn’t listen to Paxson’s coach.

 

Paxson fired Del Negro shortly after Paxson yanked on his tie in a near-fight or actual dust-up because Paxson’s coach wouldn’t listen to the way Paxson wanted players used.

 

The latest failure from Paxsonpalooza comes about because Paxson’s coach wanted to win every game with Paxson’s players no matter what, forcing Paxson’s front office to impose minutes restrictions on Paxson’s players that Paxson’s coach had to obey.

 

Paxson apparently didn’t know what Paxson’s coach believed in. How could Paxson not know that about Paxson's coach?

 

That would seem like bad judgment in hiring and dealing with a coach. But not, apparently, to Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf.

 

Get a load of this statement near the top of the “Ta-Ta, Tom” press release:

 

“While the head of each department of the organization must be free to make final decisions regarding his department, there must be free and open interdepartmental discussion and consideration of everyone’s ideas and opinions. These internal discussions must not be considered an invasion of turf, and must remain private. Teams that consistently perform at the highest levels are able to come together and be unified across the organization — staff, players, coaches, management and ownership. When everyone is on the same page, trust develops and teams can grow and succeed together. Unfortunately, there has been a departure from this culture.”

 

That’s the chairman saying Thibodeau can’t work and play well with others. Sort of an “I confess, he’s the bad guy” take.

 

That’s also the Bulls saying nyah-nyah-nyah to Thibodeau mouthpiece Jeff Van Gundy.

 

The next coach to be fired by Paxson likely will be Fred Hoiberg, presuming he wants to make the jump from Iowa State.

 

Another possibility is Alvin Gentry, working Steve Kerr’s bench for the Western Conference champion Warriors.

 

But you know who Paxson should name coach?

 

Himself, that's who. That way, the next coach Paxson fires would bring about significant change for an organization working on two decades without a title.

Agora virá um treinador banana do basquetebol universitário, que terá de ser o cachorrinho do John Paxson porque senão já sabe o que o espera: o olho da rua.

 

Mas como diz o artigo, bom era que o Paxson se auto-nomeasse treinador, para assim depois de se auto-despedir deixar os Bulls mais perto de ganhar um titulo. Porque enquanto ele lá estiver é um zero absoluto.

O Wade teve uma vida terrivel em Chicago, qualquer pessoa consegue ler a história na internet. As coisas só endireitaram mais ou menos quando foi para Marquette, pa eu diria que a última coisa que ele deve sentir necessidade é de recompensar a cidade ou sentir nostalgia pela mesma.

 

Não tenho dúvidas em afirmar que se há um sitio que ele chama casa, esse sitio é Miami.

Ele gosta de Milwaukee também, ainda tem toneladas de eventos de caridades e de outro tipo em Milwaukee e foi um sitio que o ajudou a crescer e lhe dou a hipótese de ser o que é hoje e pelo qual ele tem grande apreço. Acho que se ele sair de Miami ou é para um contender ou para Milwaukee e isto a acontecer era só mesmo no ultimo ano da carreira ou assim. No entanto duvido imenso que ele saia de Miami pelo menos para já.

Chicago tem sequer cap space para contratar o Wade?

 

Em última análise, o mais provável é que ele fique em Miami mas consigo percebe perfeitamente a direcção dos Heat. Será sensato pagar 16M/18M de dólares a um Wade com historial de problemas físicos e nos seus 36 anos à data do fim do contrato (supondo que são os tais 3 anos)? Certamente ambas as partes vão encontrar um ponto de confluência.
