Villa keeper back at KC Stadium on emergency loan deal

 

Hull City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has expressed his delight that Brad Guzan has rejoined the club on an emergency loan deal.

 

USA international goalkeeper Guzan recently spent two months with the Tigers before returning to parent club Aston Villa.

However, after fellow on-loan keeper Vito Mannone picked up an injury at the weekend, Guzan has headed back to the KC Stadium.

 

"We had a situation we had to act on and we're delighted to welcome Brad back," said Shakespeare.

 

Welcome addition

 

"We were a bit reluctant to see him go. It was circumstances, but we are delighted to have him back.

 

"He's a player that knows the club well, the club know him well and, with Vito's injury, he's a welcome addition at this stage of the season."

 

Guzan is likely to go straight into the Hull side to face Burnley on Tuesday night as the Championship club wait to learn the extent of Mannone's thigh injury.

 

Shakespeare added: "It's always worrying when there's a recurrence of an old injury.

 

"It's in the same area without really pinpointing it until he's had a scan."

 

Clarets land Delfouneso

Villa youngster gets chance of regular first-team football

 

Burnley have boosted their striking options by bringing in Aston Villa youngster Nathan Delfouneso on loan for the rest of the season.

 

Delfouneso arrives at Turf Moor to improve Eddie Howe's squad after January signing Charlie Austin was ruled out for the campaign with a dislocated shoulder.

 

England Under 21 international Delfouneso has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Villa this season and has been allowed out to gain further first-team experience by Gerard Houllier.

 

With record signing Darren Bent leading the Villa line, and with only Premier League survival to play for this season, Delfouneso's opportunities in the coming weeks were likely to be limited.

 

Providing the paperwork is finalised in time, the 20-year-old is in line to make his Burnley debut against Hull City on Tuesday evening.

 

Fulham land Israeli starlet

Cottagers to sign Altman

 

Fulham look to have beaten a host of Premier League clubs to sign Israeli starlet Omri Altman.

 

The 16-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from a number of clubs in recent months, and spent time training with Liverpool and Arsenal last year.

 

He has also spent time with Fulham, who have now pushed through a deal with his club Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Maccabi have confirmed that they have concluded a deal with the Cottagers for Altman, who turns 17 at the end of this month.

 

A statement from Maccabi read: "Maccabi Tel Aviv have reached agreement with English side Fulham for the transfer of youth player Omri Altman.

 

"The transfer is now dependant on him signing his professional contract."

 

Maccabi say the deal is expected to be concluded this week.

 

 

Leeds swoop for Bannan

Villa youngster joins Whites until end of the season

 

Leeds have completed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan on loan until the end of the season.

 

The 21-year-old Scotland international makes the switch to Elland Road for the remainder of the Championship campaign as the Whites look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

 

Bannan has made 19 first-team appearances for Villa this season and it may come as a surprise that Gerard Houllier has allowed him to leave the club for the short term.

 

Regarded as one of the brightest prospects to have come to the fore in the top-flight in recent months, he now has the chance to drop down a division and prove his worth in West Yorkshire.

 

Bannan will go straight into Leeds' squad for the clash at Preston on Tuesday evening and boss Simon Grayson admits he is delighted to see him arrive.

 

Fits the bill

 

"Barry is a player we have been tracking for a while. Circumstances have now changed where Villa are in a position to let him join us and I'd like to thank them for agreeing to the move," Grayson told the club's official website.

 

"He's had the opportunity to go to nearly every other team in the Championship so for him to come here makes it all the more pleasing.

 

"He's used to this division and he played a major part in Blackpool's run to get promoted last season so he has experience and he fits the bill perfectly for us."

 

Bannan made 24 appearances on loan at Blackpool as Ian Holloway's Tangerines secured promotion during the last Championship campaign, coming off the bench in the play-off final.

 

Villa have a recall clause on the youngster which comes into effect 28 days after the completion of the deal.

 

Lions land Spurs starlet

 

Millwall have signed Tottenham winger Andros Townsend on loan for the rest of the season.

 

The teenager has been a long-term target of Lions boss Kenny Jackett, who missed out on signing him when he joined Watford on loan in January.

 

But the Hornets opted to send Townsend back to White Hart Lane after making only three appearances and Jackett quickly swooped to bolster his attacking options.

 

They had been reduced last week when Hameur Bouazza was ruled out of facing Watford with a knee injury, one the club is still waiting to find out the severity of.

 

Townsend, an England U19 international, spent a loan spell with Ipswich earlier this season, playing against the Lions when Town knocked them out of the Carling Cup in September.

 

He also faced Millwall twice last season, scoring within a minute of coming off the bench in Leyton Orient's 1-0 win over the Lions in September 2009 and featuring later in the season when playing for the MK Dons.

Ontem o antigo internacional inglês esteve em Carnaxide e falou de Nani, de José Mourinho e, claro, Cristiano Ronaldo.

 

Anunciou o final da carreira como jogador no início de Fevereiro. O que tem feito agora, fora dos relvados?

- Tive uma grande carreira. Joguei 20 anos pelo clube dos meus sonhos e representei o meu país, apesar de alguns dissabores com a Selecção portuguesa [Euro-2004 e Mundial-2006]. Ando ocupado, a representar o meu clube...

 

- Porque decidiu terminar a carreira a meio da época?

- Há quatro, cinco meses, sentia que já não estava a contribuir para a equipa e observava os outros jogadores bem sem mim. As lesões foram frustrantes e já não me sentia bem. Podia ter esperado até final da época, mas já não acrescentava nada à equipa.

 

- Nani e Bebé são os portugueses do Manchester United. Que análise faz de ambos?

- O Bebé está há pouco tempo no clube. Tem potencial e está no local certo para o desenvolver. Nani, nos últimos oito meses, atingiu um grande nível e tem dado várias vitórias ao clube. O Manchester United é o melhor clube para jogadores jovens evoluírem, como Nani e Cristiano Ronaldo.

 

- Nani pode atingir o mesmo nível de Cristiano Ronaldo, quando este estava em Old Trafford?

- É difícil dizer. O Cristiano Ronaldo está num nível fantástico, mas Nani está no mesmo caminho. Joguei vários anos com Cristiano Ronaldo e, nos dois primeiros anos, não era o mesmo jogador que é agora. Atingiu um nível inacreditável nos últimos três anos.

 

- Lembra-se da primeira vez que viu Cristiano Ronaldo?

- Sim. Vi-o na televisão, no particular de pré-época que fizemos em Portugal [inauguração do Estádio José Alvalade, com o Sporting]. Cristiano Ronaldo é um dos jogadores mais incríveis que já vi. Um fenómeno! É um daqueles jogadores que nos faz sonhar e ter vontade de jogar futebol.

 

- Ronaldo e Messi: quem é o melhor?

- O Ronaldo é melhor, o Messi é melhor... não sei. Acho que todos nos devemos sentir sortudos por existirem dois futebolistas como Messi e Ronaldo.

ALEX FERGUSON has reached an agreement in principle to sign Everton whizkid Jack Rodwell for £25million.

As revealed in SunSport, Manchester United made a move to land the Goodison midfielder in January.

 

But the Merseysiders asked them to come back in the summer as he was so vital to them for the rest of the season.

 

They also told United their initial £15m offer was nowhere near enough.

 

Rodwell, 20 yesterday, is one of the most sought-after Premier League youngsters and signed a new five-year Everton deal only last May.

 

But United chief Ferguson is so keen to land him he has persuaded the club's owners, the Glazer family, to up their offer substantially at the end of the season.

 

United have committed another £15m to a double swoop for Aston Villa forward Ashley Young, 25, and their 21-year-old defender Ciaran Clark.

 

Fergie, who faces Arsenal in the FA Cup today, also wants striker Danny Welbeck, 20, and midfielder Tom Cleverley, 21, back permanently when they end their loans at Sunderland and Wigan.

O internacional português Nani estará a recuperar mais rapidamente do que era esperado. O extremo do Manchester United poderá voltar a ser opção na partida frente ao Bolton, marcada para o próximo fim-de-semana.
