Gavazzo Publicado 5 Março 2009 R2MVP Daily: March 5, 2009 Maybe D-Wade isn't the one who should be looking over his shoulder... We had six of the R2MVP in the top 10 on Wednesday, and I couldn't help but ask myself this: why shouldn't we have LeBron James and Dwyane Wade into the top two this week? That statement should get people to go right to the comments. But, seriously, which two players in the NBA are playing at higher level right now? And yes, we can debate who the "best" player is or who your favorite player is, but it would be tough to argue against LeBron and D-Wade being the most valuable. And to think, two weeks ago we asked whether Wade was in danger of slipping out of the top 10 if the Heat slipped below .500. Thanks to a 135-129 win over Phoenix in which he poured in 35 points and dished a career-high tying 16 dimes, the only danger Wade poses is to opposing defenses. Here are Wade's digits since the last Race to the MVP came out last Friday: At Atlanta: 21 points, 10 assists, two rebounds, three steals and a block Vs. New York: 46 points, 10 assists, eight boards, four steals, three blocked shots Vs. Cleveland: 41 points, nine assists, seven boards, seven steals and a block Vs. Phoenix: 35 points, 16 assists, six rebounds, one steal and a block That's 35.8 points, 11.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game. Not bad. Wade does have two blemishes, however, he's turned the ball over almost six times a game and the Heat went 2-2 in that four game stretch. As we wrote Tuesday, the turnovers are a result of Wade trying to do too much and the losses, well, the Heat just aren't as good as Atlanta and Cleveland, the two teams to whom Miami lost this week. When Wade gets help, as he did from rookie Michael Beasley (28 points) and Daequan Cook (27 points), both of which were career highs, the Heat can be good. That level of assistance, however, is rare. LeBron doesn't have such problems in Cleveland. He has help. Not Lakers-level help, but he has more than Wade. And when Joe Smith passes his physical and signs with them in the next day or two, the Cavs could be the deepest team in the East. They showed that in an easy, breezy 91-73 win over my Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. With the win, Cleveland became the first team to clinch a playoff spot. According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer making the postseason was an event that once caused tears and much rejoicing throughout the Cleve-land, but this clincher was met with the same excitement as having oatmeal for breakfast. (If you have it with butter, milk and real maple syrup, it becomes a little more exciting...) Cavs coach Mike Brown couldn't pretend the team hadn't made the postseason, since that fact was announced on the public-address system as the team left the court. He just wasn't going to get overly worked up about it. "That's good to know, but we're a playoff team," Brown said. "From the first day I got here, I believed we were a playoff team. We expect to be in the playoffs. But it's good." Added LeBron James, "We have one goal and that is to win an NBA championship." Eyes on the prize. And that goal will keep LeBron sharp and therefor in the thick of the MVP race. Clinching a playoff spot is nice, but clincing home-court advantage throughout the playoffs would be better. They'd like nothing better than having every Game 7 at the Q, where the Cavs are 27-1. The Cavs still have a chance of matching the NBA record of 40-1 at home set by 1986 Boston Celtics, who, as we all know, romped to the NBA title that season, but it won't be easy. After traveling to Boston on Friday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN), the Cavs return home and, whoa, look at this, get Wade and the Heat on in Cleveland on Saturday night. The remaining home schedule also includes Orlando, Portland, Dallas, an improving Detroit squad, San Antonio, Boston and Philly. Rugged. Last night, we only had one matchup that featured two of our R2MVP candidates, Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki, and it was ... Tony Parker and Josh Howard having the best nights? Well, statistically, at least, as Parker led all scorers with 37 points, but the Spurs lost to the Mavs, 107-102 in Dallas. Seems as if Mavs owner Mark Cuban's broadside had some effect. Meanwhile, Duncan has 19 and 12, but that 19 came on 7-of-21 shooting. Nowitzki, had a better night, going for 24-12 and his nine of his 15 shots. In Portland, Brandon Roy's 28 points, including the game winning free throws with 1.7 seconds left, helped the Trail Blazers beat the Pacers for the first time in nine games. (Really?) Really. And finally, there's the one guy whom we'll get a bunch of letters about: Deron Williams. Here's a dude who can score only six points as he did against Golden State on Sunday and still dish 20 dimes. In the Jazz's ninth straight win, Williams poured 26 points and assisted on 14 to help Utah past a tough Houston squad, 101-94. http://my.nba.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5700033887 He's back babyyyy! Vai muito provavelmente passar de 4º para 2º na próxima R2MVP e o topo já esteve mais longe. MVP! Compartilhar este post Link para o post
