O goleador Wayne Rooney não escondeu a satisfação por ter chegada a acordo com o Manchester United para renovar o seu contrato até 2019 e colocar um ponto final em relação ao seu futuro.

«Decidi ficar no United.

Top Premier League Transfer Flops

#10 David Bentley - £15 million (Blackburn Rovers to Tottenham Hotspur)

david-bentley-pic-getty-659487732-412479.jpg

Ex-Blackburn and Arsenal midfielder, David Bentley, earned himself a big career move to Spurs in 2008 after an impressive season with the Ewood Park club. However, this particular switch didn’t work out for the pre-madonna star, who seemed to let off-field attractions affect his on-field performances. Bentley contributed just 3 goals in 42 appearances before being loaned out to 4 consecutive clubs and then subsequently being released.

#9 Adrian Mutu - £15.8 million (Parma to Chelsea)

The controversial Romanian striker joined Chelsea in 2003 after impressing for Italian side Parma. Mutu started well with 4 goals in his first 3 games. However, he only managed an additional 2 in his next 24 league games, before failing a drugs test and being released in October 2004. Chelsea are still trying to seek compensation for breach of contract – maybe this would retract his ‘flop’ status.

#8 Franics Jeffers - £8 million (Everton to Arsenal)

55qk4k.jpg

Francis Jeffers became one of Arsenal’s most expensive ever signings after impressing Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger, during his spell at Everton. The one-time England international was tipped for greatness by many but failed to deliver as he scored just 4 goals in 22 league appearances for the north London side. He was recently spotted playing for Accrington Stanley, aged 33.

#7 Afonso Alves - £13 million (Heerenveen to Middlesborough)

Afonso_Alves_772923.jpg

Having scored 48 goals in 48 games in the Dutch league for previous side Heerenveen, Middlesborough’s January signing of Afonso Alves was greeted by Riverside supports with much joy. Indeed, the Brazilian striker started well with 5 goals in his first 11 league games. It was the following season, however, that deems this particular player a ‘flop’, as he managed just 4 goals in 31 games for the Teesside club, whilst they were relegated to the Championship, where they have remained since.

#6 Steve Marlet - £11.5 million (Lyon to Fulham)

steve-marlet-fulham-001-11029-11029.jpg

Steve Marlet broke Fulham’s transfer record following his £11.5 million move to the Cottagers – a signing so terrible it forced Fulham chairman, Mohammed Al Fayed, taking former manager, Jean Tigana, to court as he questioned the ex-Fulham boss’ motivation behind signing the Frenchman. Marlet scored just 11 goals in 54 appearances for the Craven Cottage side.

#5 Juan Sebastián Verón - £28.1 million (Lazio to Manchester United)

veron.jpg

Argentinian international, Juan Veron was clearly a magnificently talented footballer and many players have spoken of their admiration for the skillful central midfielder – he was even included in Pele’s list of 125 greatest living footballers. His £28.1 million and £15 million moves to Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively, can only be regarded as mighty ‘flops’. Plagued by injuries at Chelsea and cursed by sub-par performances at Old Trafford, due to the fast pace of the English game, Veron was unfortunately not a Premiership player, regardless of his undeniable technical ability.

#4 Alberto Aquilani - £17 million (Roma to Liverpool)

Alberto-Aquilani-Liverpool.jpg

Alberto Aquilani was a horribly underwhelming transfer for Merseyside club, Liverpool, as they were seeking a replacement for new Real Madrid signing, Xabi Alonso. A string of average performances throughout his 28-game Liverpool career saw him loaned back to Italy twice before making a permanent move to Serie A side, Fiorentina, where he is now enjoying some fine football.

#3 Andriy Shevchenko - £30.8 million (AC Milan to Chelsea)

andriy_shevchenko-56.jpg

After reports that Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, had offered in excess of €72.5 million for the Ukrainian goalscorer, Shevchenko eventually made his way to Stamford Bridge in May 2006. Following an outstanding record with former club, Milan, scoring 127 goals in 208 league appearances, ‘Sheva’s’ arrival was considered a guaranteed success. However, the Ukrainian international netted just 9 times in 48 league appearances for the Blues and was subsequently deemed surplus to requirements when he was loaned back to Milan in 2008.

#2 Andy Carroll - £35 million (Newcastle United to Liverpool)

i72yck.jpg

Andy Carroll is a ‘panic buy’ if ever I’ve seen one. Following Fernando Torres’ £50 million deadline day move to Chelsea from Liverpool, the Reds felt the need to reinvest nearly four fifths of this sum on the same day- one of Kenny Daglish’ less impressive decisions. Although not bad, his 31 goals in 80 Newcastle league appearances was hardly enough to warrant this outrageous record-breaking fee. Either way, the 6 ft. 4 in. pony tailed man-mountain only managed to bag 6 goals in his 44 league appearances for Liverpool – oh dear…

#1 Fernando Torres - £50 million (Liverpool to Chelsea)

TORRES_12_682x400_1241133a.jpg

One of football’s great mysteries: Fernando Torres. Having been one of the most sought-after players in world football, Fernando Torres excelled for Liverpool, forming a formidable partnership with England international, Steven Gerrard in the process. But what happened? Following a £50 million move to Chelsea after an admittedly dodgy patch of form for Liverpool and Spain, the Torres of old was never to be seen again. Instead, we have become accustomed to the new anti-goalscorer, Fernando ‘couldn’t hit a barn door’ Torres – scoring 19 in 100 league games for the Blues.

que estátua horrível

Horríveis são vocês, e andam aí! :(
