Artigo bastante interessante que encontrei no fórum do Liverpool. Serve para abrir os olhos do pessoal que só olha para o valor da(s) transferência(s).

The piece by Rob Gutmann of the Anfield Wrap is interesting. What with the reduced wage bill, it is reconed we've basically spent about - £1m net this year, taking into consideration the savings from all terminated contracts (this includes both transfer fees and salary).

LFC players signed since Jan 2011

Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Doni, Charlie Adam, Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Coates

Total Gross fees(approx): £112m

Estimated total annual wages for new signings : £23m per annum

If we assume each player contract is for 5 years, we can then amortise the cost of their transfer fees by dividing them by 5, to give us an annual gross cost for the new signings : –

Annual cost of transfer fees (£112m over 5 years) = £22m

Annual cost of new player wages = £23m

Therefore gross total annual cost of this summer’s transfer activity = £45m

LFC players departed since Jan 2011 and likely to be gone by 31st August

Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, Jovanovic, Alberto Aquilani, Paul Konchesky, David Ngog, Nabil El Zahr, Danny Pacheco, Ayala, Philip Degen, Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen, Brad Jones

Total estimated gross fees recouped : £72m

Estimated annual wage savings : £32m

Again, if we amortise the fees by the 5 year average contract length, the annual fee recouped figure = c.£14m

Annual wages saved (as above) = £32m

Therefore gross total annual cost of monies recouped this summer = £46m

If this is correct, basically what FSG have done is front loaded some spending now, whilst watching it basically repay itself over the next 5 years due to the reduced wage bill.

If true, considering the upgraded squad we have, that is astonishingly well played.

Come on you Gunners!

Here's Jamie's club-by-club rundown...

Arsenal

Arteta and Benayoun are two good players who know the Premier League well. They are not though, real leaders or someone to sit in front of that back four. Scott Parker would've been ideal on both fronts. They needed a left-back and Andre Santos looks like a decent buy and as for Per Mertesacker, he is also what they needed. He is tall, gangly, decent in the air, and an experienced German international. He is something they didn't have - a big defender.

Aston Villa

They were always going struggle selling Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, but Jermaine Jenas and Alan Hutton are decent signings. Jenas just needs to get his career back on track and Hutton can be as good as any right-back out there, but just needs to get his head right and make sure he uses that ability. Alex McLeish knows him well though, and I think we will see a resurgence in the lad's form. He had to leave Spurs because my dad and him just didn't hit it off.

Blackburn

The good thing for them is they've kept Chris Samba, which surprised me. But they needed cover for him and Ryan Nelsen and getting Scott Dann in, particularly when he had been linked with bigger clubs, is a good piece of business - it gives them a much better chance. I think they needed a better striker than Yakubu to be honest - although you never quite know what you're going to get with him.

Bolton Wanderers

Keeping Gary Cahill might be seen as a triumph but to me it didn't make any sense at all - and Bolton can say what they like. The player's out of contract at the end of the season, they were asking £15million for him, but I would be amazed come the January window if that price wasn't halved or worse, then this time next year he can go for zero. It just doesn't add up and unless Bolton have got more money than sense, I think they are making a huge mistake.

Chelsea

The big problem here is that Raul Meireles is no Luka Modris is he? I know they offered £40million the day before the deadline and if that was me, I'd have taken it. But I'm not the Spurs manager or chairman am I? What it does is put a bit more pressure on Juan Mata now in that midfield - although he looks like he will bring a lot more to them. Chelsea have still got some very, very good players and you can't rule them out, but I don't think the've had the window they would've liked.

Everton

I do think if they'd sold Mikel Arteta two years ago, Everton fans would have been really concerned. But he's struggled with injury and David Moyes obviously has lots of faith in young Ross Barclay. Selling Yakubu and Jermaine Beckford suggests he just didn't fancy them, so a lot will depend on whether Denis Stracqualursi can get goals in the Premier League. I'll be totally honest and say I know nothing about the lad, so we'll have to wait and see how he does.

Fulham

Bryan Ruiz is a going to be a player. I watched a lot of him last year for Twente and he really does have the lot; he's a tall, good-looking boy with the long hair and you can't help but notice him. More importantly he's got a lovely left foot, he strikes the ball sweetly and is an elegant footballer, a very nice mover. He plays in the classic Number 10 role and is a very, very talented boy. I think he'll make a big impact at Fulham and in the Premier League. One of the stars of the window for me.

Liverpool

Joe Cole just needs to get his career going again and Lille looks like a good move for him. I have to admit I was surprised, but he just didn't fit into Kenny Dalglish's plans. I was talking to Kenny last week and Joe cropped up and he told me he'd been training really well, there has been no difference in opinion, just that he didn't think he was right for what he's got at Liverpool. Meireles wanted out and when you look at the young English talent he's bought in, it's been a good window for them.

Manchester City

We've talked about Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy and know what good signings they are, but Owen Hargreaves is a bit of a gamble - but one well worth taking. City aren't like other clubs, where if they go for one guy on decent wages, it means they can't get anyone else in. They can afford to take the risk of a performance-related contract to Hargreaves and say if it goes well, that's great, but if it fails, they can just wash their hands of him.

Manchester United

Like Merse said last week, Sir Alex Ferguson probably spent Deadline Day sat on the beach - or at least sat back watching everyone else scramble about knowing he's done his business. I was talking to my dad on Wednesday night about he never seems to get involved, how he gets all his deals done early and this year has been no different. And I am pretty sure that the Dimitar Berbatov deal a couple of years ago only happened because it was a little bit personal with Man City!

Newcastle United

I saw a lot of Davide Santon when I did the Sky One programme Football's Next Stars with Inter and I know they had really high hopes for the kid. He hasn't obviously come through as they wanted, but the kid can play and I think being in the Premier League will be a great toughening-up experience for him. They've obviously let Joey Barton leave this week but I think Newcastle fans will just be happy their Deadline Day passed without any more turmoil.

Norwich City

They did their business early in the summer and I think Paul Lambert will be happy with that. As a newly-promoted side they'll have got who they wanted as far in advance as possible and then let them bed in and see how it looks. Had they lost their first three games you might have seen them go and out and get one or two more in, but they didn't. There's no reason at this stage for Norwich to panic - but it might be a different story come January.

QPR

I thought they would be the ones to struggle out of all the promoted sides and they did need to make some signings. Shaun Wright-Phillips will add real quality, Joey Barton went down with Newcastle not long ago so knows what is needed to stay up, and Anton Ferdinand is an OK signing. They were in for Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy and from what I can gather, were offering fortunes for players - which they can do. What Neil Warnock has done by bringing in so many is give them a real chance of staying up. They're well worth watching now, too.

Stoke City

I'm a fan of Tony Pulis and his chairman and they have bought well. You know with Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome up front, they won't change their style - it's just now they've got better players to put the ball in the net. Imagine those Rory Delap throw-ins going straight at Crouchie's head... my goodness! I've always liked Wilson Palacios, too. He gave his all to Spurs, but when they got into the Champions League he kind of got left behind a bit. But he's a smashing lad and he is just what they needed; extra quality in midfield. I'm really pleased for him and for Stoke.

Sunderland

I do think Nicklas Bendtner is a good signing. I've always thought Arsenal might be just a bit too big a club for him - he wouldn't think so judging by what we've seen - and that he might be better off being a bigger fish in a smaller pond. I have seen a lot of him playing for Denmark and he is usually different class and there's no doubt he's got something; he can get goals and make goals. There's definitely a player in there waiting to come out. Could be another star of this window.

Swansea City

From what I've seen so far, their best of business was getting the keeper Michael Vorn in - he looks decent. But they haven't scored yet and I do think Brendan Rogers would've like to have got someone in at the sharp end to score goals, because they have made plenty of chances. But I'm sure the goals will come and much like Norwich, they've done their shopping early and now is not the time to be making big changes.

Tottenham Hotspur

I've never known my dad be so quiet on Deadline Day - I should think Daniel Levy is a happy man, because they got plenty of money in! In all seriousness I think dad will be pretty pleased as well because he did need to move some players on, because they just needed to play football. But I have to admit, I do worry he's left himself short in the midfield department. Scott Parker is a great signing and they always wanted to keep hold of Luka Modric but they've lost Jenas, Palacios, Jamie O'Hara and David Bentley and have the Europa League to contend with. Gary Cahill was the one he really wanted - if you'd have offered him Cahill, Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor, he'd have been delighted.

West Brom

They've had a hard start to the season and if any manager could've panicked it was Roy Hodgson. But they have got Shane Long in and he's already among the goals and if he can keep that going, he will be massively important for them. Tying Peter Odimwingie down to a new deal was also a good bit of business. I never really expected them to do much, not even on Deadline Day, because the chairman doesn't look like he wants to spend that much money.

Wigan Athletic

Patrick van Aanholt is a decent defender and might do really well at a club like Wigan. Shaun Maloney has been in the Premier League before and done alright with Villa, so he knows what it's about. He's got decent ability and will provide a threat with his free-kicks and for someone like Wigan, where Roberto Martinez doesn't have millions to spend, he is probably just the right sort of signing. Not a massive gamble, but one that could easily pay off.

Wolves

Mick McCarthy didn't need to do anything on Deadline Day - and even told us he'd be watching Sky Sports News all day. He has spent a fortune in the past couple of years, so he didn't need to go and add any more. Signing Roger Johnson in this window was a smart move, as was getting O'Hara in permanently and already Wolves look to have a decent squad with enough cover. They are my certs to finish in the top 10 with what they've got.
