Jimmy Butler does it all on offense and defense

 

 

hree times, Jimmy Butler ran the break. Three times, he finished off pretty sequences featuring one bullet pass from Aaron Brooks and two touch passes from Derrick Rose.

 

So maybe this aw-shucks, my-teammates-are-just-finding-me routine is true. Or maybe not.

 

"The way Jimmy played was unbelievable on both sides of the ball," coach Tom Thibodeau said.

 

The Bulls returned home Sunday night following their 102-84 dismantling of the Nets with a 4-3 mark on their seven-game trip. It's only the second time since the dynasty ended in 1998 they've had a winning record on the typically brutal trip, matching the mark they had in 2010 during Thibodeau's first season.

 

They improved to 5-0 when their starting lineup of Butler, Rose, Mike Dunleavy, Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol is intact. Gasol posted his ninth double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. And Rose finished consecutive games for the first time this season, overcoming a tough start that featured three turnovers and two airballs for 14 points and six rebounds.

 

But the story of the game — and, really, the season — has been the incredible offensive improvement from Butler. He scored 26 points, attempting double-digit free throws for the third straight game and seventh time overall.

 

Butler also turned in his typical yeoman's performance defensively, helping strangle Joe Johnson into 1-for-7 shooting and just three points.

 

Can you say payday anyone?

 

"I'm really proud of him because I know how bad he wants it," Noah said. "He plays for the right reasons too. It's never any forced shots. It's always within the system. And he plays for his guys. He represents everything that this team is all about."

 

Citing defense that limited the Nets to 37.2 percent shooting and rebounding that produced a 50-34 advantage, Rose called Sunday the best game of the trip. He, too, praised Butler, and didn't flinch when asked if the Bulls expect such performances nightly from Butler.

 

"We hold him accountable," Rose said. "We know how hard he works. He wants to play that way. However he wants to do it, whether it's jump shots or driving to the lane or getting in the post, he's going to find a way."

 

So will Rose — if he stays healthy. Stringing games together is the goal.

 

"When he's been out on the floor he's been very, very productive," Thibodeau said. "As he strings some games together, the rust will come off, his conditioning will improve, and then we need a team discipline, and a team discipline only comes through work and practice and being together. That's what we have to aim for.''

 

Butler is averaging 21.6 points on 49.2 percent shooting and averaging 8.5 free throws per game. He has scored 20 or more points 11 times after doing so just nine times in his first three seasons combined.

 

Can he keep this up?

 

"I guess we'll see," he said. "I just wanted to be on the (opponents') scouting report to tell you the truth. I don't think I was on the scouting report last year. Maybe I made a way onto people's scouting report this year."

 

Layups: Taj Gibson said he's treating off days like game days trying to rehabilitate the left ankle he has sprained three times in seven months. But it's unlikely Gibson will play until Saturday against the Warriors at the earliest. "My teammates know all the injuries I have. I mostly just play through pain and kind of rush back," he said. "You know it's serious when your own teammates are telling you to calm down. It's a bigger picture."

Mas tem lógica isso. Se só faz lançamentos é normal que tenha + que os outros. O estranho é na história da Nba só haver 30 com mais assistências.

Mesmo não sendo um distribuidor é normal que depois de 17 ou 18 épocas ao mais alto nivel vá acumulando algumas assistências

Mas a sério que se tenta argumentar o facto de ele ser um ball hogger e lançar mais do que devia com o número de assistências?

 

Basta ver os jogos. Esta é uma das coisas que não aparece na stat sheet (bem, o número de lançamentos absurdo aparece), mas sim com o teste ocular, a ver, de facto, os jogos.

Não é nada estranho, o Kobe sempre teve médias de perto de 5 assistências por jogo, não são números de pg a fazer quase 10 ast por jogo mas é bom... Ao longo destes anos é tudo menos estranho e sinceramente até pensei que estivesse com menos gajos à frente.

O Kobe faz muitas assistências porque a bola está sempre na mão dele. Eu também fazia muitas assistências se me estivessem sempre a fazer double team como acontece com muitos dos grandes jogadores da NBA.

 

Isso não faz dele um jogador de equipa.
